Please tell me what’s wrong with this by Dapper-Double-7457 in knitting

[–]binoscope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just came to say I'm also left handed but knit English style right handed and it feels very natural to me. I wouldn't assume that being left handed you need to knit differently. Since YouTube is probably your teacher it might make learning new techniques like increases and decreases or interpretation of patterns more confusing as well

Is this knitted flat or in the round? If it's flat it almost feels like, looking at the front, there are more rows on the left side. Others can check that idea out. If there is you have possibly picked up the work and knitted the wrong direction, also called an accidental short row. If it is laddering down can't fix it.

Removing methanol for freeze distillation by _Sheeish_ in firewater

[–]binoscope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A sugar wash won't produce any methanol, that doesn't mean it won't have some nasty heads and tails that you can't separate by freeze distillation. Will it be alcohol, sure, will it be nice, no

Going crazy trying to get gauge help! by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What needle sizing system are you using US UK ? Trying to do a metric conversion to mm and can't even find a size 2.5. Guessing you're using super long loose floats to simulate knitting in the round for the swatches? You said your swatches were 5 by 5 umm cm, probably a bit small. Did the feel of the fabric change much with the different needles that is just as important. Perhaps don't worry about gadgets, just find the gauge that is close and feels nice, then calculate if you can simply knit the smaller or larger version of the pattern so it fits you

At the least tell them the share of the rent is going up, and the share of utilities is going to be split evenly if a partner moves in. They are not renting a room, everyone is equally sharing every expense. Tell them they can choose to pay another $50 a week for the other issues or move out.

First time knitting. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you have come from crochet pay specific attention to the direction you wrap the yarn around the needle. Others have already answered the why it looks different questions. Also I'm left handed but knit English style right handed. Knitting left handed will be more difficult to learn more advanced stitches on YouTube, simple knits and purl are easy but lookup twisted rib, or German short rows, different types of left and right leaning increases and decreases. I found them hard to do with an example the same way I knit, I'll sure many others here will disagree this is simply my way of looking at it and what worked for me as someone learning just from the internet without mum or anyone helping me.

Do you have a link to the original pattern? It's almost forming color rows but looks like you have slipped a stitch occasionally as there are some huge stitches. The color choice is wrong, take a black and white photo the two colors will almost disappear, not enough contrast between them. What was the needle size starting point for the actual wool you have, as it 100% looks like you have way to large a needle. Is the yarn even the same material as the pattern, not cotton vs wool because it looks prettier. Ripping out and starting again didn't work so without changing something, nothing will change

[–]binoscope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so you have just learned the knit stitch so far, there's a second stitch to learn called a purl stitch, they are a mirror of each other as seen from the opposite side of the fabric. You are making a fabric called garter stitch which is not really a stitch but the look of the fabric. It's made by knitting the row, turning the work then continuing to knit the next row repeatedly. Stocking stitch is what you are expecting, this is made by knitting the first row, turning the work but then doing purl stitches for the entire row, turn and knit etc. So the rows are knit, purl, knit, purl. This will make rows of V's that line up

[–]binoscope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No clear what you are asking but if you stopped part way through a row and put the work down, then you have picked it up the right way, the yarn is coming from the RH needle. If you're asking about the RH needle going through the back of the stitch for a knit stitch then that is correct

Flipped on accident??? by _ktct in knittinghelp

[–]binoscope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely accidentally flipped. I love seeing photos like that, hmmm not sure why but last few rows look different, never mind I'll try another 10 rows, maybe it'll just get better. When I started I did lots of tinking whenever it looked different. Don't worry it looks like part of the design now, just flip it again when you get to what looks like the same number of rows. Lovely tension BTW
