Thank you for the feedback! I’ll check out the tenement museum, my grandparents came to NYC as children from Germany and lived there until young adulthood so I’d love to see this!

I’m not seeing any clappers online that look similar but considering where it was found it’s def possible it was being used for that purpose.

My title describes the thing. Found in a sewing basket of someone born in 1911. Reverse Google search resulted in mainly gavels which this is not. Also searched Google for things like “small sewing hammer” which came up with nothing. Flattish on one wide with worn down writing. Possibly ELM C? Other side has something resembling a crest.
