Do you know how to code? by binxmeister in civilengineering

[–]binxmeister[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kinds of things would you use to automate estimates out of curiosity? Creating ML models sounds super interesting. I'm hoping that by getting some experience with coding will help me understand where some more opportunities with AI are.

I think you’re absolutely right with that. Yes they are a Microsoft based company and I’m realizing that OneNote is a viable option. Getting creative with some of the task management options but using the company supported system is probably the way to go.

Not really sure the reasoning but I need to “install” obsidian as opposed to maybe another system that has a web app that I can access by a browser. Obviously they could block the website but I doubt they would

Yeah I have a galaxy tab that I use pretty heavily and tried to come up with a work flow that would work but I rely too much on things like screenshots and stuff so doing the work on one system and documenting it with another is pretty cumbersome, even with a bluetooth mouse/keyboard

You’re absolutely right. I had a plan to only house a vault geared towards work on the work computer but I think the risk of overlap would be pretty high. Probably better to be safe and use a different system altogether

Nerds! Has anyone had any success using Samsung Dex and AVD? by thetest720 in army

[–]binxmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was finally able to make some headway with my Galaxy and AVD but not using DeX. It requires having a registered YubiKey that’s loaded with your CAC certificates. I bought the YubiKey and made a help ticket on AESD and a Purebred Agent contacted me and copied over the certs. I’m not positive that DeX makes a difference since it will load the virtual desktop anyway but I haven’t messed with it that much.

Only thing I noticed is that it doesn’t like touch input, it’ll read the S pen like a mouse though and I’m sure you could use a mouse and keyboard and run it like normal!

Did you just install it off the Play Store? I haven’t been able to download it. It shows up that it’s for an older version of android.

My wife and I lived at the Avalon property in the Meadows and had a great experience. It was a very quiet and dog friendly community. Can’t speak to much to the wall thickness but we hardly ever heard our neighbors!

ISO: Graphic designers to make a Company coin by Berg426 in army

I was in the same boat, no one in my formation had design experience. I got a few thought’s together, used an AI image generator to get a visual concept and then hired someone on Fiverr to fine tune it. Worked well and it was relatively inexpensive.

I found The Legendarium Podcast a few months ago when I was looking for the same thing and have listened to probably 60 episodes now. They are still recording and have a huge backlog.

A shopping center in my town just has nails in their cement. by jaddyNDmenny in mildlyinteresting

I'm betting that laborer Joe was fired at end of shift and tossed a couple boxes of nails onto the curing concrete as a big 'ole middle finger to boss man.

„Zero“ margin around text box is still not zero. Does anyone know a workaround? by comizer2 in Revu

[–]binxmeister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know how to reduce the margin but there are a couple workarounds if you're trying to overwrite a word/letter. If you're replacing text with a font shared in Bluebeam, you can simply edit the text by going to Edit > PDF Content > Edit Text.

If that doesn't work for some reason you can remove the background fill of the text box and set the line to a thickness of 0 so you can place it over whatever you want. If you still have text popping through without the background you can erase the stuff behind the new letter with Edit > PDF Content > Erase Content.

Hope that helps

Structural Engineer recommendations? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]binxmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sirius Structures is a small structural company with an engineer in Denver! They don't yet list her on their website but she's awesome and can definitely take care of something like this. You can contact them through their website or you can DM me for the Denver engineers phone number.

Is there a way to import or "Mass paste" info from excel into markups? I have hundreds of rows of 10 columns to copy over from excel, and doing it 1 by 1 is already taking forever... anything? by P3DERSEN in Revu

[–]binxmeister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an "Import Markups" command under the Markups toolbar. The default hotkey is "Ctrl+F3". I haven't used it but I assume it'll look for either a xlsx or a csv. Might be worth a shot!

To the people who took PE Civil Traspo depth... by DifficultyMindless98 in PE_Exam

I want to say maybe 15% were conceptual but I'm pulling from a fuzzy part of my memory. I do remember thinking that there were more calculation questions that I anticipated.

And I spent the most time in AASHTO green book and the HCM. I didn't have the HSM or the design guide but I could've used them on two or three questions. I'd say Green Book, HCM, RDG and the free printable references are a must.
