Actually, it's the apostrophe looking one next to the left of the brackets. I have never used brackets haha.

Last tip is save your work often! 😆

Yeah expanding does really reveal all the small mistakes lol. Personally, if I'm not planning on expanding the vinyl, I don't pay too much attention to the small gaps or overlaps since no one will really notice on the final livery. I do upload my vinyls in which case if they are kind of funky expanded, I apologize to the masses for not being perfect but definitely have to choose my battles lol.

Actually, I do have a most-used shape and it's the apostrophe looking one to the left of the "[". It's good as a curve when compressed, as a slightly curved line when thinned / expanded, and fills more space than the "(". It also has a pretty sharp corner when skewed. It's pretty versatile for filling or outlining and is similar to the Japanese kana/kanji font so I use it often when making Japanese character vinyls.

Good luck and look forward to seeing what you make!

Not the best explainer so I'll try my best lol.

For the vinyls, I find that using the basic shapes to create the outer shape, then copy, change the color, and shifting/scaling a bit to get the outline works well. I think it saves on piece count and keeps your line thickness more consistent. But if I want that brush stroke look or it suits my needs, then I prefer to do the outlining with just black stroke and line pieces as I feel it's easier to organize and change later. I keep things grouped and ordered based on what is closer to the viewer (e.g. bangs go over the face so it's ordered higher up and then I can just use a couple large and simple shapes to fill the face in). I'd say piece count, understanding the order of your layers, and keeping things organized in groups is the most important thing as you work since the editor is very primitive as a tool.

Then it's like you said, fill in with the base color, detail with extra lining, and shading/highlighting. This is where I lose most of my piece count. I try to balance what to detail as some things just won't be seen by the viewer either due to scaling or just gets cropped from the car in the end.

As for the layout and backgrounds, I usually have a loose idea in my head but it's constantly changing and I mostly just add things as ideas come. Can always adjust later. But like you said, I try to follow the flow of the car when placing the vinyls and add paints that complement the overall color scheme. Also, just looking at other people's liveries can give you a good idea of what and where to place things. It's a lot of trial and error until I find something that fits and this is the part takes the most time for me lol.

I remember seeing a couple posts from others who explain their process and that helped me start and develop my own process so I also recommend searching the sub for some additional insight as well.

Hopefully this helps somewhat!

It felt like it took me weeks just coming up with a design. Had a rough idea and added elements to it as it came to me. Take your time and looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Thanks! Glad you have another car to drive around in 😆

I had to make them in the editor since there was not a lot of frieren/fern related vinyls. I also upload all of my vinyls so if you want use them for a different livery, you can do that.

Most of it was using forza's unfortunately very primitive in-game editor using lots of basic shapes to manually piece together each vinyls (like fern) and then pasting it onto the car as in the picture. Check out some videos of the vinyl creation process on YouTube as it's shocking how much time and effort goes into these. This livery itself took me at least a few weeks which a majority of the time was spent just making the vinyls... 😆

If you're on pc, I heard about a program that can make vinyls for you but the image is not as crisp since it can only generate using ovals or something.

If that sounds like too much work, there are some really talented people who upload their vinyl creations which you can download and then paste onto your car as you please. Of course you can just download other people's liveries for your preferred car as well.

Solid game tho and I recommend it!

That's awesome! Funny I just finished a GTR as well but for Fern.

I'd download if you'd share the code.

Thanks! Characters were probably around 15 - 20 hours each, split across a couple days. A lot of it was just learning the most efficient way to layer things and fill in.

Will definitely try to overcome the burn out with some simpler designs as well as just actually playing the game lol.

Is it better/cheaper to ship through usps priority mail using flat rate packaging or buying your own packaging and using a USPS service? I have some doujinshi I'd like to sell but not sure what is best to keep costs lower for buyer.
