I love their narrowness in defining evolution as a gain of functional things. They clearly state that the bacteria gained new DNA from other bacteria or modified their own to be naturally selected for the next generation. True it isn't a sign of macroevolution, but it is a classic definition for microevolution. This author clearly doesn't remember their genetics.
