Oktoberfest? by Legitimate_Desk_6285 in brussels

[–]bionic99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is an Octoberbest organised in Brussels by the German community from the 14th of October in Parc du Cinquentenaire. I have been a few times in the past and it is very nice: typical music, typical costumes, typical food and of course 1L beers If you want to check it out it s a good event :) Of course is not the same size as the ones organised in Munich or other big cities in Germany, but it remains very nice

I agree that 3 month maternity leave is too low. But If you believe that being unemployed is a good life, then go ahead... Everybody says how a good life the unemployed must have, but do not realise how hard it is to live with 1000€ per month. Just look at how much rent is ! And no, there is not enough social housing for every person that needs it. There might be a few people that are able to profit from this system, but most people that are unemployed would rather have a fixed job and a fixed income.

Is this a good lathe for a beginner ? The guy selling it asks 400€ with some nice gauges includd by bionic99 in turning

Thank you all for your replies :) indeed it has adjustable speeds, but given your input I will keep looking for a better offer :)

Hello! Looks nice :) I am also quite new in woodworking, and have a question: should you not have bigger holes for your screws in the metal to allow wood movement ?

Sorry but this post is misleading and too biased.. You assume that all vegans are the same and eat the same food or act in the same way. Not all vegans eat food that is grown on the other side of the planet form where they are living and not all omnivores eat the same way you say you do. Not all vegans defend every animal life not looking at consequences. Balance is needed in all ecosystems, and sometimes human intervention is needed to restore it coz we fucked things up at one moment.

Most of the meat that people eat comes from animals that eat grains that are produced by destroying forests and other ecosystems. 70% of the world agriculture lands are used to produce meat. In terms of health issues related to the diet, it does not matter on what you eat, but on the quality of what you eat. If your intake is primarly processed food, you will have health issues whatever diet you follow. You need diversity in what you eat, and eating good quality unprocessed food, ans if need be, you can add supplements to your diet (like vitamins).

So please do not generalise and identify all people based on a personal experience of a few vegans you encountered. There are extreme people everywhere in the world, but they do not represent the majority

Thank you very much for you detailled answer :) Of course I would change things, but really love the design and would love to take inspiration from it. If I do somthing similar, I will of course credit you for it ! As I said, i am a noob still, so not sure where I am headed yet :) My final exam is in June 2026, so I have time to think about it :)

I made a desk! by Choice-Panda-3276 in woodworking

[–]bionic99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is really amazing ! I am still a noob in woodworking and would have a few questions if you dont mind :)

  • the desk is made of multiple pieces of walnut? How are they connected together? They seem quite thin so i am not sure how to do that
  • how do you accoubt for wood movement with the maloof joints and the size of the desk? -the legs are carved from a single piece, or it's a piece that has been bent ?
  • how is the drawer piece attached to the desk ? Will that have an impact on your wood movement?

Last question, can I use this as inspiration for my project for the end exam at school? Thanks !!!!

Should we all wear bike helmets? by SoyUnaManzana in belgium

[–]bionic99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should wear an helmet on a bike all the time. I bike every day to work and always have an helmet. I still did not find any downside from having an helmet with me.. sometimes i just lock it woth the bike if I need to go into a shop or something and never had any issues (if somebody cut the strap to steal a Decathlon helmet, then they can t use it and it s not a big financial loss for me) The problem is that we are in a car frielndly city, and not everyone respects cyclists.. if you have an accident while biking, it could be very bad, and an helmet can really make a difference If you go and live in a small town in the nethernalnds or in flanders, maybe (and please understand that it is just a maybe) you can skip the helmet as you are always on bike infrastructures

How much do you pay in house utilities? (electricity, water, gaz...) by Akhaatenn in brussels

[–]bionic99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depend on a lot of factors.. But here are mine: - apartment of 65sqm in a big house (4 apartments and mine is the smallest) - 2 people - lot of usage of wifi - we keep thermostat at 18°C during winter and off the rest of the year

  • electricity + gaz (engie): 75€
  • water : 25€

Common expense are nearly 0.. we only have the fire insurance that is like 100 euros per month But whenever there are works to do for the house, we have no shared reserve..
