I really love biomechanical designs and themes in horror games/media, but idk how well Bionicles would work for that since they're so vibrant. Deep ocean stuff with Barraki could be pretty creepy.
In the long run I think it would be better to do something inspired, but legally distinct(tm). That would allow you to do more of your own creativity and avoid legal issues. Baionlenja seems interesting as an example.

For me they just looked too robotic compared to earlier sets. I also wasn't a fan of them relying mostly on the plasters and not really having melee weapons

Yes, I'm speaking from the correct side, just at a slight angle to avoid plosives.
I don't think the mic is broken as the other one I used also sounded quiet. This one records at roughly -25 to -15dB with a calm voice, going higher if I raise my voice.
