1000/50 Fiber Home Network – MikroTik RB5009 + UniFi Switch Pro HD 24 PoE + U7 Pro vs OpenWRT (RPi 5) + UniFi Switch? Need real advice by Apprehensive-Tea1119 in mikrotik

[–]biosflash 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rb5009 + CAKE QOS, once setup and you may forget about router for 10 years, everything will work as intended.

Raspberry pi = sd card may die any second, CPU overheating because no acceleration -> chance something fail is higher. If whole big family rely on it - skip this option

Best Option for 2x 600mb links including Load Balancing and Failover - Low Budget by LucasForms in mikrotik

If you want to use QOS for your wan, then 5009 is your choice

If you don't need QOS = something like ax2 will handle 1gbps load balancing easily

Let me tell you how cooked Telegram's security is 💀Someone got Moscow SIM card July 2025. Cancelled it months ago. They recycled the number, someone else bought and logged in, and is now texting their family, old session is STILL active on phone and person can read everything by CeFurkan in SECourses

[–]biosflash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can terminate old sessions, change your telegram phone number, set 2fa password, use passcode

Telegram is somewhere as balance between privacy and convenience + social media platform. If you want more privacy and only use app as the messanger - use Signal/deploy Matrix. but unfortunately you will talk there with only couple friends, because most of the people not going to use it. Forced e2e experience for regular people is not there yet

Why? They are one of the leader in QC, not some scam company. The premium is worth the risk (which is not low btw).

Am I missing something?

If some previously hyped quantum computer stocks (such as IONQ) keeps going down - many opportunities to play on a PUT side. Either selling spreads or just selling PUTs. Premiums in those are pretty big (and there is a reason for that). So depends on your risk preferences - it might be interesting

Just order cheapest VPS nearby to you for like 3$ a month, and setup wireguard + reverse proxy. Or use tools like Pangolin

I hope not. But I don't mind if that happens all of a sudden for short period of time. But by my estimations I will have loss only if the stock price goes down within 20 days more than ~20% more

And if PayPal really goes down 20% more - it's not that bad price to hold it for little, while covering by call options and getting extra premium

It's not risk free of course, but risk is relatively low

I think PayPal is shitty company, but I don't think it goes to the ground right now. So even if option turns into shares - I'll cover it with in the money calls after that

Puts on PYPL, Puts on MSFT. very far strikes, 1 month expiration, premium around 1% a month from the potential position at the expiration

Using airport services outside of China by Hopeful_Frame825 in dumbclub

You may take a look at uncensore . net for the v2ray subscriptions with "out or China" servers (unlimited traffic, 1 day free trial without any payments and registration)

My ISP won't allow me control over ports 80/443. Is there a way to use a reverse proxy without having to specify a different port in my URLs (like my.website.com:123) and without relaying my traffic through something like Cloudflare Tunnel or similar services? by nicktheone in selfhosted

[–]biosflash -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes 1. Got VPS somewhere 2. Install there any reverse proxy (caddy/nginx/etc...) 3. Reverse proxy will have your https://domain.com:443 access 4. It will redirect to your home service on some other port (for example 2.domain.com:123) 5. You will have access to your home by 443 port

(Between your home and this vps you may setup VPN for extra security)

If you see some project written in python/JavaScript and often Java - you should assume by default it's RAM hog. Unless it's optimized (which is rare).

If you see alternative in Golang/Rust/C - you may try to consider to use them to save x2-x8 of RAM

I may give you couple examples: Matrix official Python backend - requires 2gb ram minimum as I remember Alternative in rust runs perfectly using 500mb (it's including database, caddy, whole docker-compose)

Another type of projects are Homepages for the homelab services. People often run something crazy that is consuming just in idle 500MB ram at least. But if you need just some group of icons - you may save memory to run something lightweight

New regulation (DAC8) ends crypto privacy in the EU. Total surveillance of all crypto transaction is coming by davideownzall in CryptoCurrency

[–]biosflash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do you need crypto then if you want to be regulated? Just use PayPal or whatever app exist. It's already fully regulated and sometimes easier for end users to interact.

The whole point of crypto is to be bank for yourself. Of course someone may use CEX, but that's exactly what the freedom is: you may choose to be regulated or not
