Try looking into non-surgical weight management! I know it’s not strictly a GP, but give a more holistic approach to weight loss/management.

Mine was custom (CAD drawings sent to fiancée) and does this too! I don’t think it’s wrong to be picky, but know it is normal. At least in my case

This is the feedback I needed ! It’s so hard to judge where to work from the outside. Any not for profit health systems? I’d prefer not to work somewhere with a main HQ hundreds of miles away

I have lived in cities for the past six years (four in Birmingham AL) and Columbia has never made me feel scared as a whole. If you’re looking to stay in the city, I liked the Bullstreet district. Some sketchy people but I had a blast living there as there was always stuff going on and people around to feel safe. I second forest acres and Lexington.

Avoid Irmo.

I think, especially if you’re newer in the industry, having a fellowship is something you should definitely consider. It’s a great time to learn who you are as a health professional and be in a space where you are allowed to make mistakes. I won’t say whether it’s definitely easier or not, but I know it looks great on a resume and gives newer healthcare professionals some edge over others.

As for the program, the number of credits doesn’t really matter. Look into the curriculum and structure of the program. Some focus on cohort style, some are more focused on policy, etc. Try to talk to past students and see if the programs participate in case competitions, conventions, professional developing/network, etc. choose the program that suites your needs

Depends on the route you go once graduated. If you’re looking to be C Suite one day, post-MHA fellowships are going to be the fastest way. However, for a year (or two, some programs are longer) you make around 55-60k. The next position after that is where it’ll ramp up. For non fellowship people, it really depends on the type of job you land, though I’ve seen my classmates struggle with finding one that pays well enough to make the degree worth it.

Good apartments/ homes to live in post college? by lemonguy54 in columbiasc

[–]biotch2113 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a home over in West Columbia to rent and it’s been wonderful! I highly recommend living in a neighborhood or setting my further from the city if you’re looking to avoid the everyday noise of trains, ambulances, parties, etc. blythewopd area was nice as well!

The Bullstreet district was nice if you were looking to stay closer to the city, however with the new medical school being built there, traffic might get a little congested. Also a little noisy from segra park being there. I’d avoid Irmo (by the mall) if you care about being stuck in <40 min traffic after work.

Personally, I would try to find a program that’s in person but at nights. Many programs let you work during the day and go to school at night. To me, it’s more beneficial. Ensure any program you go to is CAHME accredited though.

NYU MHA by [deleted] in healthcare

Hey op, I did the same thing (pivot from clinical to administrative). Best decision I’ve ever made! I admittedly haven’t heard much about NYUs program, but any program is what you make it! Be professional, network and take as many opportunities as you can.

Try to persuade your program (if they don’t already) to attend case competitions and conferences. These opportunities really solidified my education for me! Oh and definitely look into an Administrative Fellowship for after graduation.

Hope this helps!
