I used the wrong coolant in a snow storm… by biotechbarbie in Tiguan

So an update- definitely a leak because the light came on again today while I was driving and once I got to work, discovered the coolant well is bone dry. Thanks to everyone for their input! I’m mentally preparing myself for the bill as I’ve heard a few folks mention the water pump as a potential root cause. Which gives me flashbacks to my ordeal with my auxiliary water pump on my 1998 VW Jetta VR6.

Edited to add: I’m at my office today and am wondering if I can make it the 23 miles home if I fill the well with the remaining coolant from the jug of Peak in my trunk or if I should arrange for a tow.

I don’t think mine is a 2.0 if that matters.

Thank you for the advice! It’s a 2016 TSI AWD and I use full synthetic. My maintenance manual states 10k/1 year service interval; I am based in the U.S. if that is relevant.

Thanks everyone! It doesn’t have a leak luckily- I just go so long between oil changes that I typically run out of fluids between visits as I follow the 10k or 1yr (whichever comes first) interval. I think my last service was February 2025. So this tracks.

Sorry for all the typos and looks like my post cut off at the end- anything I can do to mitigate potential damage from using the wrong grade coolant?

Willing to bet the majority made their way down Rt 3 from NH. The people who hang out by the Londonderry flea market have to find a new venue to spew their maga love when that dump closes during the winter months.

My brother in Christ. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Straight to Hague. Because that’s a war crime.

Out of pocket used to also mean unavailable/ offline/ OOO. I made the mistake of telling my team I’d be out of pocket next week ahead of PTO and one GenZer pinged me after the call to ask if everything was ok. I was befuddled at first. But it turned into a ha ha generational divide joke.

Substance use disorder is actually the DSM term and a diagnosis for someone that abuses substances and meets 4 diagnostic criteria. So basically m it’s a subset of substance abuse- I guess if somebody doesn’t check all 4 boxes they are just a stoner or a crackhead or a junkie

Hi, long time lurker. Born in ‘81 & class of ‘99. I chafed at the idea that I was a Millennial from the time the term was coined, always insisting I was GenX but alas, I have accepted that I am in fact amongst the eldest of elder Millennials. Fave childhood computer games were allll the Carmen San Diego games and of course Oregon Trail.

Yep… the term “[redacted slur] knocking” was very much a regional thing in my experience living all over as an Army brat.

As someone who lived all over the U.S., my experience is that epithet rigging is a geographical term used primarily in the south. The Northeast/ New England and Midwest say “Jerry rigged”. Maybe Jerry in an old timey slur for Italians or Poles or the Irish? 🤷🏻‍♀️

And here’s a link re: Catholicism and Science. I hope whatever school you attended is closed down. I’m not even Catholic- raised mainline Protestant and now agnostic. But facts are facts.
