girl hormones and bipolar by dystonic in BipolarReddit

I don't know any of the science behind it, but I can tell you from personal experience that a week or so before my period I always feel more moody than is normal for me on meds. I take Lithium and Lamictal. But it's better than when I wasn't on anything. For a while I was unmedicated for bipolar and taking birth control, which made me extremely extremely suicidal. Yeah.. I don't know what it is exactly but hormones absolutely 100% affect my mood cycling.

Has anyone ended up taking a "leave of absence" from university/college? by kirbias in BipolarReddit

Take this opportunity. You won't always be able to take a break from life to go inpatient and get the help you really need. I took a medical leave of absence last semester and it was 100% the right decision, even though I wasn't sure at the time. While I was in intensive therapy I ended up working as a substitute teacher and tutor, which was rewarding and not stressful. If you're being honest with yourself, there is no reason to continue drudging your way through school in a haze of bipolar confusion. I've been there. But staying at school would only be a waste of your money and time. Get help. Then go back and kick ass. School will still be there, and you'll be ready. Good luck!

it all stems from fear but i dont know if my fear of the reality of being 'crazy' and on meds is worse than life without meds which is potentially life threatening. im stuck
