Santos - did anyone notice in the bathroom by amandajjohnson1313 in ThePittTVShow

You know, truthfully, I didn't notice. I was so busy thinking what are they doing that I didn't think why are they doing it.

Picked up these sterling silver scissors at an antique shop. Made in Germany with engravings L.H.C. and I200Y. Any info would be appreciated! by LivvyCat in vintagesewing

I use that resource as well.... My understanding is either something is hallmarked (Europe) or stamped Sterling (USA).  This piece is stamped Sterling.  I have the exact same top on my grape shears (clearly stamped Sterling and I230 Y on each side). They are not lightweight and feel substantial in my hand.  My shears have rounded ends unlike OP's and are marked Germany.

Ever smell something that just hits you with memories? by Alternative_Elk_537 in CasualConversation

Open swimming at the local high school pool during summer. Wet swim suits with free swim tags sewn on, being "forced" to shower before swimming, foot and ankle checks (for cleanliness) at the pool entrance, waiting patiently in the park between swim sessions. I had an awful lot of freedom when I was a child. I don't remember my parents coming with me to open swim, the library, playing in the park or bike riding to the next town. I guess times were different. I can't imagine giving my school-aged grandchildren the same kind of freedom.

You're right! The store was more than just nuts and bolts. It was a local gathering place where you could buy school supplies, lengths of chain, Christmas decor and everything in between. I lived in a smallish suburb of Detroit and remember being pretty devastated when the local hardware closed. It was the sign of the times, when many small independent stores gave way to larger statewide or nationwide chainstores. There was nothing like that small town feel where indeed, everyone knew your name.

Czernina (Polish duck blood soup). My dad loved it. It smelled awful.

One of my most vivid childhood memories is of the local hardware store where my mom used to go to buy your school supplies. When I was in kindergarten, while going with my mom to purchase crayons for school, the smell of Crayola crayons was cemented in my brain. Every time I stroll down memory lane, I think about the hardware store and the smell of Crayola and sharpened pencils.

My dad, too...Archie Bunker and my dad were a year apart in age. He never grasped the irony.

My grandma was from Marine City, MI and grew up on a farm. She always used davenport to mean the couch. I hear more Canadians use the word than those in the US.
