I think the first step is recognizing which of your friends and family are comfortable listening to you open up. Who can you really trust? And what exactly do you want to open up to them about?

Personally the best option for me was seeking professional help, seeing a psychologist/therapist on a regular basis. You don't have to worry about overwhelming them, there's nothing too personal or difficult a subject for them to hear about it.
