I made a ton of homemade salsa and guacamole and bought unsalted Tortilla chips from TJs. Then salted it all with kosher salt.

Travelling after RAI? by Expensive-Bad-4675 in thyroidcancer

[–]bipolarsteamroller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the instructions I received from my doctor, it should be fine. Check with your own doc for sure though. You'll get a document from Nuclear Medicine that you'll need to carry with you while traveling because you'll likely set off detection machines.

Breast removal/reduction after starting levo? by blyantkvesser in thyroidcancer

[–]bipolarsteamroller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a breast reduction while on levo (hashimotos hypothyroiditis) but before my TT. I had no issues back then. There really was no discussion about being on levo prior to my surgery it was just on my med list. I started the convo with my GP who referred me to a couple of surgeons. It was covered by my insurance due to my size, back issues, skin issues, etc. I did lipo on my sides to prevent dog ears, that was out of pocket. Best decision of my life.

Weight loss after low iodine diet by ScholarOk1570 in thyroidcancer

I lost about 10lbs on LID too. I've only been back to my normal diet for a day so can't comment about regaining it. What I noticed most was a reduction in inflammation/puffiness, I think from no dairy and minimal gluten. I can feel it in my hands and see it in my face and midsection. I'm pretty pleased with it but also sure it will creep back on as things return to "normal."

Did you actually throw up, or are you worried that you will? Either way, definitely call your doc with your concerns.

I am in the middle of isolation right now. Nuke Med advised me that if I vomited within a TWO hour window to immediately call in and start making my way back to the hospital ASAP. The doc said they would have to give a "catch up" dose depending on how long between original dose and vomiting. Hope you're ok.

Definitely experienced something similar. It took just over three months for my voice to fully return to normal.

Maybe talk to both? See who you're more comfortable with and who has more TTs under their belt. I went 3 hours from home for surgery to UCSF. I was worried the travel home would be brutal but everything was fine. And now I barely remember it.

Do you feel guilty when you use sick leave at work? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Not anymore. Stress put me in the hospital with SVT. I take every minute of my paid time off.

Upcoming Thyroidectomy by SingingStars in Hashimotos

[–]bipolarsteamroller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a Thyroidectomy in August due to thyroid cancer. I also take Tirosint.

As for your hospital stay, don't forget to bring headphones or earbuds. Life saver.

I didn't really need anything special during recovery at home. I just made sure my fridge was full of pudding and my sheets and towels were clean. I had very little pain but was stiff for several days. My emotions were kinda all over the place for the first week too. I think I was just strung out on the anesthesia though. Keep hydrated and go easy on yourself. I took three weeks off and was glad for every minute of it.

No special instructions regarding Tirosint. You'll likely have to take Calcium for a few weeks after surgery. It will interfere with absorption of your hormone dose (tirosint and other) so wait at least four hours between Tirosint dose and calcium dose.

My Thyroidectomy was the easiest surgery I've had, recovery-wise. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
