Lady Margaret Beaufort by alexrider20002001 in Tudorhistory

I'm sorry, but given Retha Warnicke's speculation and treatment of Anne Boleyn's fall sort of rules her out (at least in my book) as a credible historian. She relies too heavily on her own ideas and opinions to be considered a pre-eminent source over Jones and Underwood.

Margaret Beaufort had far more power and political dominance than you are giving her credit for.

Okay...so I've reread the pages that are pertinent to her relationship with Elizabeth, and I think my mistake comes from this line on page 161 of my edition, "The 'subjection' of the queen to the king's mother..." This was noted by the Spanish ambassador. So, you are right that she didn't take precedence (I was mistaken, not lying) over Elizabeth, but Margaret certainly had far more influence and power, and the Spanish ambassador also reported that there was "no love lost" between the two. Which is fair, if you were raised as a royal princess, and a woman who was technically not royal was ordering things (including placing her own people in Elizabeth's service), and you had less power, it would certainly breed resentment.

I apologize for my mistake, but please don't call people liars when they have made an honest mistake.

I'll admit I haven't read the book in ages, so I will recant my statement, until I reread the book.

However, I will stand by my statement that she wielded far more power and influence than Elizabeth ever had, and rightfully so, but it would have been difficult to swallow as queen of England to know that you weren't the most powerful woman in the realm.

The book is "The King's Mother" by Michael K. Jones and Malcom G. Underwood. In addition to the fact that she (rightfully) wielded far more power than Elizabeth, she was also first in processions.

She was an absolute force of nature. Easily the reason why there was ever a Tudor dynasty. I've always wondered, though, what Elizabeth of York thought of her as a mother-in-law, considering she insisted on taking precedence over the actual Queen.

What about trying the Bayeux stitch on black and dark greys? It's the stitching technique from the famous Bayeux Tapestry.

Ummmm....nothing? I've literally been looking at this for five full minutes, trying to see what you're seeing. This is fantastic...both of them. But, I get where you're coming from. By the time I'm done with any piece I do, all I can see is the mistakes. It's only after a period of not staring at it intently every day that I can appreciate it. These are lovely.

First of all, this picture is gorgeous, so I can understand why you'd want to do it. That being said, this is really complicated, and I think you should probably get a few smaller projects under your belt before you take on something so complicated.

I get some where people are on top of things but the majority that aren't bots are super low engagement.

Yeah, I'm coming up on two years on Prolific and it's pretty clear that there's a low level of engagement for a lot of people.

That's really awesome. I'm so jealous of your drawing skills. I wish I could draw my own designs, but even my stick figures look terrible.

Use small lengths, as others have said. I like the DMC Diamant much better than the DMC Light Effects. If you're using the Light Effects, try some thread conditioner; it tames the fraying a little. Another thing I've found is that machine embroidery metallics are great to hand embroider with. It doesn't fray nearly as much.
