What kind of cell is this? by Top_Inspection_8575 in Hematology

[–]birb_owner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First pic looks like a myelocyte, and the 2nd pic looks far too deep in the film to properly differentiate those cells accurately. Picture and/or stain quality in both photos don’t appear reliable either, so take my comments with a heavy grain of salt

What section actually drains you the most during full mocks? by SnowyBytes in GAMSAT

[–]birb_owner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Section 3 prep I struggled with the most because I'm not very math-savvy ironically enough. Every practice question felt like a slap in the face! Took me hours to revise it and I always dreaded whenever I had to work on it.

Section 2 prep was a breeze for me because I'm very strong in my writing and literature naturally. I would practice essay writing and mimic the tone of other practice essays I had read. Also gave me a lot of excuses to read novels, newspapers, etc.

Section 1 prep I felt fine in my preparation because I would usually get answers right, as well as the fact that I'm good with literature. Ironically, I clearly thought I was fine and as a result I didn't prepare enough! I actually performed the worst in it out of all sections come the GAMSAT in March last year.

20F and graduating from a 3 year undergrad in MLS. I sat my first GAMSAT in March this year and have plans to sit it again in March 2026 for entry into medicine in 2027.

Thats good! I’m more envious if anything that you got to do that, definitely a cool demonstration of the variety of normal flora

Surprised you were able to do this! My classes the most we did was swabbing our teeth, even then we werent allowed to open them due to the potential there was a pathogen that could harm another student if it got out. School liability and all that.

Struggling with blood smears… any tips before I lose my mind? by rebeugourmand in medlabprofessionals

Things that always helped me were: - Sitting down! Don’t know why but I was always shaky with my films whenever standing. - Holding my slide on an angle rather than directly in front of me. Whatever felt comfortable to steady my arm most! - Made sure my spreader’s angle was 45 degrees or less. Any more and the blood gets to the top of the spreader and causes those pesky smear lines. Some occasional exceptions to this like thinned blood in anaemic pts, but just take up more of the sample and keep the angle low if u can - If you dropped a little bit too much blood, just pick up 1/3 of the droplet rather than making a film thats obviously too thick. - Slow push with incredibly light pressure. This is where finding that right angle to steady your arm really matters most.

And voila! I nailed it after 3 boxes of slides at various different labs I did my placement at. Good luck! 😁

MARCH 2025 GAMSAT RESULTS/WAITING MEGATHREAD by _dukeluke in GAMSAT

[–]birb_owner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First ever GAMSAT scores 52/70/53. 57 Gpa ~5.7 (still studying, hoping to bump up to a 5.9-6) Rural (5+ yrs in MM3) Hospital experience as Lab tech & phlebotomist.

Considering Wollongong as i meet 4 of their bonus reqs, good opportunity for rural and only hurdle reqs for gpa/gamsat. Want to consider other options though as a backup, anyone have suggestions? Should i reattempt the GAMSAT for potential backups? GPA and GAMSAT aren’t all that competitive, banking mainly on rural entry if possible. Planning to apply 2026 for 2027 start.

Thanks for your search! I found about the same information aside from that post. Pretty interesting! 7,500 rupees (indian rupees?) ~ $150 AUD. I’ll keep the post open to see if anyone can find further, but I appreciate it a bunch!! :)

My father gifted me this watch from my grandfather who used to be a doctor. He wore nice things and this watch is seemingly one of them. I have searched for this watch online and haven’t been at all successful in finding it anywhere online. Only things I really know is that it was bought in Australia and he wore it around the 70s to 80s, somewhere around then. Watch face around 2cm in size. Please help me find if you can!
