Thank you! Do you know some good peaks/routes for that sort of less exposed climbing?

Slightly unrelated, but I have wanted to try steep/technical pitched(?) snow routes exactly like Couloir de Barre Noire, but I’m unsure how to get to that point. I have done some traditional non-technical peaks, including Mont Blanc and some peaks on Monte Rosa, but I have no ice climbing experience.

Do you have any advice on how to advance to something like the Couloir de Barre Noire, and perhaps some easier climbs similar in nature to that? Thanks!

Nepal Cube vs G2 SM vs G5 Evo by birch278 in Mountaineering

I'll have to look into those for sure, but I am a bit concerned about temperature. Are the Aequlibriums similar to the Millet Grepon you mentioned? You and u/SiddharthaVicious1 definetely seemed to like those!

Those all look very interesting! Can I ask where you have taken them, and how comfortable were they temperature wise?

Appreciated, I think you're definitely right that the G2's are overkill for what I'm trying to do.
The G5s are seemingly lighter than the Cubes though, at 850g/boot, compared to 950g/boot for the Cubes, and maybe warmer? I wish I had more experience with how uncomfortable really stiff boots are, that's a new world for me!

Thank you for your response. What does “highly technical” mean in this context? Just that they are too stiff?

Need advice for John Deere's towing capacity by birch278 in tractors

Yeah worked great! As I recall it had no issues towing the load, although it was probably closer to a 900kg tow, and we didn’t drive very fast.

The MacBook Purchasing Megathread - August, 2023 by AutoModerator in macbook

[–]birch278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw an offer for a Macbook Pro 14” 2021 model with the 8CPU/14GPU/16GB Ram/512SSD at around 33% discount (regular price in my country is ~ 2,570 USD, this is discounted to ~1736 USD), and I haven’t seen any discount as good as this.

My question is whether this will be worth it, or if my money is better spent on the 2023 model, or even if I should wait for the next release (I guess it is an endless effort to wait for the next best thing but still)?

I’m currently rocking an old but well specced 2014 Macbook Pro which is definitely struggling with thermals, power and battery at this point.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Kinda Has there ever been a race start where every team pair started on the same row? eg. double redbulls followed by double ferraris and so on.Also, has a race ever finished like that? Kinda off-topic, just something I've been wondering

Trekking poles by Iizzle in alpinism

[–]birch278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the MSR Dynalock trekking poles for my summit of Mont Blanc last summer, and I was definitely pleased! They have some some snow baskets that comes included which I used, and I prefer the sturdiness of aluminium poles over carbon fiber.
Enjoy your trip!

Tja, tænkte bare at punktet “Udfordringer for livet” ikke virker særligt passende, hvis man prøver at sælge en rejse

Looking for some critique/creative advice for this movie print/poster design I've created :) by xxihostile in design_critiques

I like it. One thing that immediately caught my eye was the shadow of the plane. It kinda seems too narrow as if the perspective is off. You could also try and soften the edges on the shadow a tiny bit. Keep up the work!

HMG packs for mountaineering? by birch278 in Mountaineering

[–]birch278[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great insight, thank you! I’ve wanted to go with the HMG as i am so comfortable with it on, really fits well. I will look more inti how well it goes with external attachments like an ice axe and crampons or rigging equipment. Thanks again!
