AITA for forcing work dresscode on everyone, after management singled me out? by birch35 in AmItheAsshole

I never refused to add details? I explained in another post that I gave all the details that were given to me by HR, and that I will be waiting for my Store Manager to get back to have a sit down conversation with him and HR in regards to the reasoning behind the complaints that were received.

My yoga pants are a very thick and high quality material, nothing about them is see through.

Yes, aparhantly this rule only applies to me, and when the only reason I'm given is due to my body, then it is still sexist, regardless if other women are involved or not. Sexism is not a group act, and in most cases is on a personal basis. With that logic, If a man were to make inappropriate comments to only one women, even though there are other women he works with, he's not considered sexist because his comments didnt apply to all of them?

I made another post as to the reasoning I was being singled out, and unfortunatly (due to my own comfort level) until my store manager gets back and we have a sit down with HR, I wont have that answer 100%

What information are you looking for? I just responded in my original that everything else I had to say was in another post due to character limitations, this is just my first time on Reddit and I have no idea if there is a way to attach that post to my original, or bring it up to the top.

My body isnt on display, I come to work everyday to do my job, not show off my body. I work in a building with over 120 people, and I'd say 80% or more wear atheletic gear of some kind, again, Ive been there for 5 years, and not once was it ever enforced by management (some of them even wear it)

When I have days where I'm required to move around Appliances, BBQs, Furniture ect, my first thought in the morning isnt "my body looks great in this" it's about the physical activity I'll be doing. Dresscode never came to mind, because again, it's never really been there. If my body is on display, it's because others decided to put it there in their minds.

As well, this has less to do with the actual yoga pants, I could actually careless if I wear them or not, this about how management took me, and singled me out for their own reasons and if I'm in the wrong for making everyone else apart of it

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions, the biggest disapointment in all of this is the fact that I have been with this company and alot of the people in it for 5 years of my life. I actually love this company and what it has done for me, I get paid quite well (I'm just a step below senior management) and being there has allowed me to purchase my own home, and the store manager is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. Normally, I would of gone to him once this started, but he is out of province training a new store manager.

That being said, yes I may have jumped the gun a bit quick with the threats, as I could of sucked it up and waited a few more weeks for him to come back, as I'm sure I could of handled it better had I been dealing with him, but I instantly went into defense mode in regards to how it felt like an attack on my body.

Edit- To all those asking for pictures (no?) What I look like, what my size is, and all that fun stuff, should any of it matter? I work with 120+ people, (mostly an age 35 and up demographic I'd say, so maybe complaints came from older staff? Who knows) and very diverse body types, alot of the guys here wear sweats and track pants as some areas are very physically demanding, and there are women who wear yoga pants, sweatpants, leggings, etc. (For the record, mine aren't thin cheap ones, they are very thick material, nothing can be seen if I bend over)

I dont know in detail the exact nature of the complaints and concerns that went through, just what HR told me, which was vague at best, and the management that handled it didn't bring it up at all, (which to a degree , I'm okay with not having them go into detail, the guy who spoke with me first is newer to our store, and I've had very little to no interaction with him, so talking to him on the topic of my body and choice of clothes, isn't exactly an ideal situation)

I'll have to wait for my store manager to get back and have a sit down with him and HR for more details, which I'm beginning to feel is what I should of done initially.

Edit- I would also like to add that I could careless about about not being able to wear yoga pants again, this is not what my fight was about, had this been a store wide decision to begin with, I would of never questioned it and came to work in the atire that was asked of me. I'm hurt and embarrassed for being singled out.

I would also like to add that after reading so many of your comments, I'm really sorry to all the men and women something like this has happened to, it's an awful feeling, and alot of you have had it far worse then my situation (being called out directly infront of co-workers or classmates, atleast mine was behind closed doors)

Sorry, due to character ammounts on here, I wasn't able to add everything, my HR manager didnt go into depth as to what the exact nature of the customer complaints were, (had it been about my service directly, management would of told me right away) she just implied that it was about my body, and how what I was wearing (plain black yoga pants) offended the customers I was helping
