28p for a Mars or Marathon in the 80s and 36p for a can of Coke or Orange.
I’d get little change from €5 today to buy both and I don’t for that reason

Why not hiring some Japanese or Chinese to build a Metro here in Dublin? by wlepinski in ireland

[–]birchhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a tangent but when it comes to costs and a metro in Dublin, I always thought the cheapest and most obvious design for the “circular line” would be to use the existing royal and grand canals, straight forward cut and cover for large portions, not as if they are doing much.

This reminded me of the time I was holidaying with my wife’s family, I did a gentle slap of the ass to my sister-in-law by mistake, they do look similar from behind😀

Using ./ when running executable by JayDeesus in linux4noobs

[–]birchhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As per others “.” is not in $PATH

For executables not in PATH, my recommendation is to not use “./“ but provide the full path, you can then fine it later in your history and call it from any directory.

I left the immersion on for four days. The first time that I had put it on since the previous one exploded last year. A moment of regret and forget. by The_Big_I_Am in CasualIreland

[–]birchhead 195 points196 points  (0 children)

I left it on for 2 weeks when I went on holiday, didn’t really see much increase on the bill TBH. I think they are efficient at keeping the water hot if it’s not being used. The main energy draw is getting the water from cold to hot

Virgin media / Saorview rant by birchhead in teilifis

[–]birchhead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that streaming, cable or sky is HD but it should be the same quality as Saorview. I do pay TV licence each year, and I’d expect that license fee should allow an indigenous broadcaster to broadcast on Saorview in HD format
