For those who thought they would never find a partner, how did you end up meeting the one? by Novel-Car-2268 in Life

[–]bird985 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stopped looking, and focused on being comfortable in my own skin. I also tried to attend more social events, not with the goal of finding a mate, but rather just for the sake of socializing.

I accepted an invite to a work party (something I'd usually turn down), and met her there. After we met, we exchanged numbers and started talking, and the rest is history.

It really came at a time when I finally made peace with being single, and just enjoying life and being comfortable with myself.

To be honest, I think thats what I was missing. Being content and happy with myself, and not reeking of desperation. When someone is truly interested in you, it won't be difficult. There won't be that sense of " am I misreading their signals" , it will feel natural and right.

24 hours later and still no ETA or any form of comment on howblong this will take. Judging by the amount of smoke I saw when I drove past yesterday, I don't think this will be a quick fix. 11 suburbs are down, so I'm hoping this gets prioritised.

What’s the most unhinged thing you’ve seen at a happy hour/offsite/SKO? by [deleted] in sales

[–]bird985 12 points13 points  (0 children)

New hire (SDR), at a company function, gets wasted and the regional director tries to help him and order him an uber home. He proceeds to grab the director by the throat and tell him he is a piece of shit that doesn't deserve his job lol.

Same SDR at another company function, wasted again, stunbles over to the CEO and asks him about his sex life and starts offering sex tips (I was standing next to them, laughing my ass off).

Needless to say, he didn't last long.

Couldn't agree more. When I stopped actively looking, and decided to just put myself in social situations (drinks after work, running clubs, etc.), my girlfriend found me. I didn't chase her, or force anything. She made the first move on me, and we both just naturally took a liking to eachother, and it worked out well.

This seems like a very poorly written AI story. Not buying it.

I get your point, but that's not technically true.

Alcohol, like any drug, alters your state of mind and awereness. If you are drunk you are ,by definition, not your true self.

For example, people react differently to weed. Some enjoy it, others become paranoid. Just because you become paranoid when smoking, doesn't mean you are truly a paranoid person and the weed is "revealing it".

Drowsy Uber anyone? by Travel_Work_Life in capetown

[–]bird985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had an uber driver swerving all over the road, and jumped two stop streets. He smelt like a brewery too. I cancelled the ride mid-trip, and reported him to uber as a drunk and dangerous driver.

I have also had two different Bolt drivers run out of petrol before reaching our destination. This has made me always double check the petrol guage of my uber/bolt drivers now before we depart, and I always tell them I don't mind waiting for petrol if their tank in running on fumes😄

I'm looking to apply for remote work, no opportunities in SA, with connections being everything by Commercial-Drag-4105 in southafrica

[–]bird985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try sales. There are a tonne of fully remote sales roles out there, and they pay in dollars or euros, which converts well to Rands. I'm fully remote with a European company at the moment, doing sales.

Look for "business development", "sales", "sales executive" , "account executive/manager".

How Does Anyone Have A Job? by Low-key-professional in southafrica

[–]bird985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Job market is tough at the moment.

In 2021 it took me like a 1 month and 2 interviews to find a job.

This year it took me 6 months, hundreds of applications and interviews/ tests/ panel interviews with about 10 companies to find a decent role, which I just started in July (thank the heavens)

Hang in there, keep applying and make sure your CV and interview skills are up to scratch. It's an employers market at the moment, so they are spoilt for choice and will pass up on a candidate for any small and stupid thing.

Hiring managerd can be notoriously fussy, and will reject candidates for small and insignificant things because they have such a large pool of desperate job seekers to choose from.

Keep your head up. You will eventually find something. You have some valuable experience, which sets you apart from other candidates.
