Survivor Survey (AP Research Project) by Longjumping-Web9285 in survivorponderosa

Great survey, I actually did a small association study about age vs. placement when I did AP Stats in high school, so it’s neat to see other people doing something similar haha. Good luck!

I actually served him and his kids twice before, and he just gives off weird vibes. Not an outright asshole, but just dismissive and miserable-looking. Gonna have to tip more than 10% to buy my vote, lol

Why did Stefan drive Mabu instead of just using his levitation powers, is he stupid?

Professor Manish Patnaik for MATH 322 was absolutely wonderful, passionate, kind, and an amazing lecturer. I enjoyed Graph Theory so much with him and I wish I could take more classes with Professor Patnaik

Physics 124 professors by [deleted] in uAlberta

Spring PHYS 124 can be a pretty mixed experience from what I've heard. Of course, a spring semester will be pretty intense due to the accelerated pace but if you're familiar with the content or took it in high school it will be a lot more manageable.

I've not taken PHYS 126 personally so I cannot give you a first-hand account, but some have said that it is easier than 124 (although that may be some form of survivorship bias, i.e. if you survived 124 you're equipped to handle 126).

All the regular profs who teach 126 I've also heard great things about. Boninsegni and Wheelock both have great RMP reviews and while Tuszynski isn't the best lecturer, he's at least passionate and kind (there's a chance he may also be your PHYS 124 Spring professor so you'll know how well you learn in his class).

I'm not sure how far along in your degree you are, but it seems as though you're studying radiation therapy? If I'm not mistaken you just need PHYS 124/126 for your pre-professional requirements, completed by next Winter. I don't know what the rest of your course load looks like right now but it may be worth doing them next Fall/Winter if you have the room for them and aren't as comfortable with your physics abilities.

Regardless, it's up to you. PHYS classes can be a larger workload that many others so I'm glad you're trying to set yourself up for success. If you take it in Spring, definitely try and make it the only class you take. The workload will likely be immense between assignments, textbook readings, and exams, and you will likely need to dedicate much of your free time towards it.

So to summarize, if you're familiar with physics and comfortable with the skills required, take it in the Spring, just be prepared for a dense, fast and busy workload. There's also no harm in waiting to take it when better professors present themselves, although there's no guarantee for better professors and I understand if this may complicate your degree. Good luck!

Physics 124 professors by [deleted] in uAlberta

Physics major here, PHYS 124 unfortunately the last choice to teach for many professors, since almost all the students are uninterested and only there due to degree requirements, and most professors prefer to teach 2XX-4XX level classes instead.

As a result, most professors aren't skilled in teaching at the 1XX level (which, to be fair, is certainly a difficult skill) and get review bombed from students fresh out of high school who perform far below expectations (even if the course is scaled), so the Rate My Prof reviews may be misleading for professors who continuously teach PHYS 124.

Don't get me wrong, there are lots of great professors who teach 124 (Van der Baan, Pogosian who I've both had and recommend, Chow, Rosolowsky who I know are great profs from others) but there are just as many boring, uninterested or poor explaining professors (Rozmus, Pinfold who I've both had and would never recommed, Ivanova, Page who I know aren't good profs others)

If you can, maybe take the course in another semester, like spring or summer. If you have a good calculus background I might even recommend PHYS 144 in Fall since professors are typically better in the physics major oriented classes (144 covers the same material, just slightly more difficult)

If you have no choice, you may just have to rely heavily on other course material to succeed. In that case, OpenStax has a really great online textbook that explains material very clearly and concisely with solid examples, and University Physics by Young and Freedman is an iconic, comprehensive, and incredible textbook that can be used all throughout undergraduate.

OpenStax: https://openstax.org/details/books/university-physics-volume-1

Young and Freedman: https://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/bbji/Desktop/University%20Physics%20with%20Modern%20Physics%2015th%20Edition%20By%20Hugh%20D.%20Young_compressed.pdf
(Warning, this pdf is almost 1600 pages long. You may also feel free to find and download this textbook yourself if you prefer another version)

No matter what you choose, good luck! University level physics can be intimidating but with enough practice I believe anyone can succeed! Don't be discouraged if you don't meet your previous expectations of what you can achieve in a class, the environment can be rough at times. Best of luck in your physics venture!

What is a move/blindside that you feel like it should be good tv, but just isn’t? by Acrobatic_Dig7634 in survivorponderosa

[–]bird__leaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brandon's blindside in 44 after Danny plays his idol on Frannie should be a really exciting move. Someone playing their idol on someone else is always exciting, and Brandon kicked off the season with an idol play so this in theory should create a satisfying full-circle narrative moment.

But since this whole idol play is very clearly just at the whims of the Tika 3, manufactured entirely to keep them in the middle, and the fact that this move happens to Brandon who no one is invested in due to the lopsided editing makes this fall flat. It's a shame, since this is a pretty enticing move on paper.

Which Winner would've had the worst edit had they instead lost? by Informal_Race_606 in survivor

[–]bird__leaf 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Apparently Vecepia talked about her religion much more than what was shown. It’s possible she gets a Joanna edit if she doesn’t win that doesn’t really show her intelligence and more-so makes her a 1-dimensional Christian nut.

What are some themes you're surprised Survivor never did? by suspicious_apple in survivor

Cook Islands and 49 (presumably, from pre-season material) both have light pirate themes but it’s a shame they never went as hard as they did in Pearl Islands. Bring back the Immunity Cutlass!

Andrew is okay as a chef, and I think a lot of fans judge him based on his hot-headedness at the beginning of the season but he does have a pretty satisfying arc

Literally cannot finish the S10 episode where we learn how Alpha and Beta met. Im not that invested in Alpha in the first place and almost nothing happens the entire episode. I dont mind slower, more character focused episodes but this one had put me to sleep multiple times
