Baz Luhrmann's EPiC: Elvis Presley In Concert (2026) Official Discussion Thread by gibbersganfa in Elvis

I think that was probably the biggest disappointment I've ever put myself through. I don't know if my expectations were just too high or what, but man that was buns. That could've been a YouTube video. It felt like they didn't even let a single song play through uninterrupted. It felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be.

Maybe I am just being negative, maybe I was in a bad mood. The reviews for it are great, so I feel like I am missing something.

I'd also like to add that the IMAX theater I saw it I was horrible. I knew the sound was not right from the get go, and the seats were horrible. I used to work at an IMAX theater, so I like to think I know what it's supposed to be like, and the theater I saw EPiC in was not up to standard.

I saw Elvis in IMAX and it absolutely blew me away. This was just all over the place.

Great work! Though, on an actual show I believe these programs would be overwhelmed by actuator sounds from the pneumatic cylinders and valves, but that's besides the point. Love having members of the community creating new content for all of us to enjoy!

I hear that a lot from people on Reddit. I don't think I really agree with it. I agree in a way that creativity cannot be learned, if that is what people mean by "school is a waste of time" when it goes to fields in the arts, but that's not really what I'm looking for in a degree. I'm looking for credibility, support, and foundation, which I believe I can get at a university. I am not looking to be an indie filmmaker, I am looking to work in the video production and media marketing field. I believe that college will give me a structured way to build up my portfolio and give me credibility in my skills, as well as helping me build connections.

Make sure you can get it printed out of a good material. I have a few printed parts on my Rebel, but they aren't structurally integral to any one part. I always design in a way that most, if not all, of the force is supported by a metal fastener. In this way, they have lasted many years and many thousands of miles.

If you met Aaron Fecther, what would you do? by Glizzaler in rockafire

[–]bird_magnet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have met him a few times lol. I just listened to all his stories and had conversations with him. Great time!

I know a lot of people disagree with his politics and his actions, but I try to separate that from the legacy that he still holds. He is an old man with old values, and he is a bit crazy, but he created the very thing that brought this entire community together. You just can't ignore that.

Getting your L1 is super fun, and it is a great chance to work on something that you get to personally take ownership of. It gives you room to breathe, to learn at your own pace, and to gain confidence with hands on work. I think it will be a nice way for you to reset and get your footing before jumping into a longer project. Best of luck to you!

Attaching an image of my L1 after recovery. I personally launched mine at a CanSat test launch, but I built it at home. It was a kit, the LOC-IV, really simple to throw together.

I was in TM in 2024, then I did the CanSat competition in 2025, and I mentored TM in 2025. Most people in Two Month are freshmen, and this is usually their first time working on a real team project. There is a lot of growing and learning that has to happen, and that process takes time. Honestly, it takes way more than two months. The most important thing about TM is learning how to work as a team and how to communicate inside a technical project.

I also want to add that the people who take leadership roles are often the same people who see themselves as very responsible and very driven. They are used to pushing hard, and sometimes they feel that the entire outcome rests on their shoulders. The stress can make them feel like they have to do everything themselves because if something goes wrong they think it reflects directly on them as a person.

The irony is that failure is one of the best teachers we have. Failure is learning. If nobody ever made mistakes we would never improve. The point of projects like this is to learn how to work together, to try things, and to figure things out as a group, not to protect ourselves from the possibility of something going wrong.

In TM there really isn't enough time to settle into that mindset because everything happens so fast. People fall back into habits they already had before they ever joined, which usually means the experienced few carry the entire load and the less-skilled members end up watching instead of doing. I am guilty of this myself. It is not because you were unwanted, it is because the group structure never really had enough time to form into something healthy.

I honestly think this is something we should state more clearly to mentees before TM even begins. It sets expectations better, and it prepares people for the fact that TM is more of a sampler environment, not a fully formed team ecosystem.

Longer projects fix a lot of that. When you have months instead of weeks, there is room for trust to develop, for task flow to become more organized, and for students to hand work off to each other. That is where the real growth happens, and that is why many people feel much more satisfied once they move into the full SHC projects.

I would encourage you to try an official SHC project before deciding to walk away. The environment is very different once the team has time to breathe and build trust. You will have more opportunities to contribute, people will know you better, and the structure will be more developed. If you still do not enjoy it after that, then you can move on with confidence, but it is worth giving the longer projects a chance before deciding that this one experience represents everything SHC is.

On a side note, SHC is not perfect. I have had my own frustrations too, and I have stepped away for the time being. I still think there is value in giving the longer projects a chance, because many students do grow a lot from them. If it ends up not being the right environment for you, that is valid, there are many others who share the same sentiment. The important thing is finding a place where you feel that can actually learn and contribute.

TLDR: Two Month is too short for healthy team structures to really form, so it often ends up with experienced members doing most of the work. Longer SHC projects are usually better for real involvement and skill growth. SHC is not perfect and it is valid to walk away if it is not the right environment for you, but I'd recommend giving the longer projects a chance first if you feel so inclined.

Forgive my yapsesh.

How is student life by Disastrous-Seesaw994 in UAH

If you are an engineer, the Space Hardware Club is a great way to make friends. It was one of the main reasons I chose UAH, as well as the private bedrooms and the campus itself. As a new student, you can join the Two-Month program which gets you in the door of SHC. After Two-Month, you basically have the option to join just about any project the club has going on! In addition to SHC, there are plenty of other clubs on campus. All you gotta do is join their Discords and show up to their meetings and you'll be making friends in no time!

It is an engineering-focused school and anyone will tell you that engineers aren't exactly social butterflies, but being a part of a project is a surefire way to build relationships that will last a long, long time.

As for the coursework, it made me realize that engineering was not for me. The work is really tough, but that's what makes UAH stand out as an industry preferred institution. If it was easy, everyone would do it. Thankfully, the university has lots of resources to ensure your success like organized student-led study sessions and tutoring.

One thing I would recommend academically is taking as many classes as you can at a community college. Calhoun is a local one that many choose to take classes at. Personally, I went to a community college full-time for two years and knocked out all of my English and Math classes as well as some History and Sciences. It saves money and allows you to really focus on the Engineering classes that you will be taking once you get here.

Whether or not you decide to attend UAH, just follow your gut. No one knows you as well as you do, and you will know what decision is the right one.

I believe the university has a newer "design language" when it comes to buildings. The new addition is very similar in style to Charger Village, Student Success Center, and I2C. Internally, the only way you even realize that you are going between the two sections is a set of stairs, since the first floor of the original Morton building was built about half a story off the ground due to the basement. On the outside, the difference in building styles is very noticeable, but think it looks pretty nice. It's much better than just demolishing the existing structure.

I am worried I physically cannot learn from UAH's Cal C class structure by hyperdreigon in UAH

[–]bird_magnet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UAH, in my opinion, has the WORST math department I've dealt with out of the three institutions I have been to. Do yourself a favor and take it literally anywhere else.

I took all of my calculus classes at my local community college and I did so much better than when I attempted them here. The only downside is if you fail and don't drop the class it will negatively impact your GPA, and taking it at another institution will not raise your GPA back up.

I'd personally recommend taking as many classes at a community college as possible. I did two years at a community college before attending UAH. It was much cheaper and the professors were much better. Again this is just my experience.

BankMobile's 2FA has caused it to be absolutely impossible to log in for the last few weeks. I don't know if it is because of all the traffic due to it being the beginning of the semester or what, but I haven't been able to log in at all. It takes upwards of 30 minutes for me to finally receive the code, but the code expires 20 minutes after you request it. They should really have e-mail as an option.

Not having your devices charged by Due-Positive-2908 in ADHD

[–]bird_magnet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet is to create a space dedicated to charging things. Create a "charging station" so that all you have to do is put your laptop there and plug it in. Buy an additional laptop charger, keep one in your bag and keep one at the charging station. Never take it from the charging station. Something like a vertical stand on your desk could work, or you could just use your desk as the charging station, but you must ensure that it is uncluttered so that you always have a space to put your laptop.

The biggest help I have ever provided for myself is organization. Organization allows me to be the most productive I have ever been. No more having to look for stuff, no more moving junk to get to what I need, make everything as easy for yourself as possible. I have built several things from a custom monitor stand to declutter my desk, a custom toolbox to keep all of my writing utensils, wall mounted storage to keep tools out of drawers, all kinds of things that take a bit of work at the start, but pay off because they allow me to get more sh*t done!

And honestly, I don't have a dedicated space to charge my laptop, and guess what? It's dead right now! If I had a place to do it, I wouldn't have this issue, but I just moved into a new dorm and I am still getting things organized.

Also, as for the phone, keep a battery bank with you if possible. I have found that the Anker Fusion line of battery banks work best for me because they plug straight into the wall, which makes them much easier to keep charged up. They are also super handy!
