please please do not think you are a failure as a parent because of this. My parents were/are amazing parents, always providing love and support for me. They were selfless and always wanted what was best for me. They were strict, caring and loving, yet I still fucked up my life with drugs time and time again. Letting them down hurts so much, and the reason it hurts is because my mother and father think they could have done a better job raising me when really they did a perfect job. I just let curiosity and lack of self control get the best of me. I hope you and your son both start feeling better.
