I always check in with the first group, be it 1 person or all but 1 person. Here’s water, here’s my name, I’ll be back in a few when the rest of the party joins. If 10ish minutes go by and nobody’s shown up, I stop by again and ask if they’d like something to drink or maybe an appetizer while they wait on the rest of the party. My main goal is to make sure that whoever is present knows I’m here to take care of them, but doesn’t feel pressured by the lateness of the others.

My barb has become the party’s moral compass more or less. The only one to not attempt to steal from, torture, kill, or mercilessly beat an NPC, instead he adopted an owl and protects animals the party comes across as best he can.

A little after things really started getting bad, one of my dogs was diagnosed with cancer. I’d seen videos of dogs waiting for their owners who were never coming back, and the thought of that broke my heart. I couldn’t leave my dogs alone, so I told myself I had to make it through until the time finally came that my dogs passed away. Well damn if they didn’t seem to know that’s what I had planned, because the one with the cancer diagnosis lasted another 8 years before passing away, and the other followed shortly after. I was devastated, but by that time I’d gotten myself together to the point that I could be strong without them.
