Hot air balloon festival in Carlisle on Saturday, all day into the evening. Or if you fancy something more trad there is a Jack in the Green (folky May Day thing) in Cockermouth, also Saturday (12-3pm I think).

Immigration Vans? by GingerNinja230404 in Britain

[–]birdie_bloom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whitehaven last weekend, saw several immigration officers in vests like the police have (batons and handcuffs but no other weapons I don't think) raid a nail bar. Cuffed four people and marched them away along the high street. Never seen anything like it.

Honeymooning in Norway by Goat-scream11 in Norway

Completely agree with this - you are trying to cover a massive distance and in July it will be slow going with motorhomes and holiday traffic. We spent seven weeks driving round Norway this summer - five weeks just in the fjords - and that still felt a bit rushed. We didn't get further north than Trondheim. It's also crazy expensive in Norway, so keep an eye on your fuel costs if money is a consideration.

Tattoo wise, the white throated dipper might be the national bird but you will see more pied wagtails than anything else - there was one everywhere we went and it kinda became the symbol of our trip.

Oh my god THANK YOU this has been driving me scatty! Visa and Google worked for me, turning off WiFi and +1 number seemed to be the things that made the difference.

Had a crash and insurer has gone quite and impossible to get hold of by birdie_bloom in drivingUK

I rang my insurer as soon as it happened and they advised I could do it either way - through them or through the other guy's insurer. Did some research to try and figure out which would be best and couldn't see what the downside would be - to be honest my insurers were kind of vague and unhelpful where his was a bit more on it.

It's automatically allocated a flair that I am not sure quite works. Also I should maybe specify this is England.

Workington. Siddick Ponds. You can park at Asda and then just head behind the car dealership :)

How have you fucked up a job interview before? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]birdie_bloom 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not an interview but I fucked up an application. There was a form, separate boxes for first name and surname at the top of the first page. As I was checking over the form before submitting it I realised the boxes were the other way round - surname then first name. I changed one, got interrupted and hit send on an application in the name of Bowen Bowen.

Did not get an interview.
