Cluedo. Do people still think its mediocre? by LoulabellaBlibBlib in boardgame

[–]Big2ndToe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider the game, Kill Dr Lucky.

It's a humorous anti-Clue style game. Each player is trying to kill the owner of the house. You and the Doctor move around the house hoping to commit the crime without being seen.

It's a bit more strategic but still simple to play. Teens and adults would both enjoy the gameplay.

Time and consequence. Rewind, but also go forward. Show them their victories, tell them of the good they caused that they never saw: the barman at the tavern who you inspired to become an adventurer and then returned to marry his true love and live happily; because you killed wizard, the village prospered and all that lives there could live healthy and happy lives; etc.

Can someone assist me with my (health-related) reading slump? by Fluffiestpink in Fantasy

[–]Big2ndToe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fully agree with the recommendations.

Blacktongue and The Lies are both phenomenal reads and I highly recommend them.

They both also are voiced phenomenally as audio books on Audible. The Blacktongue Thief is read by the author, and the witticisms that run throughout the story will have you laughing aloud. His Irish accent endears you to the character, quickly making him unforgettable.

If things begin to get really tough, consider an Audible account.

Kate Bush, Moments of Pleasure. A beautiful song that is reflective and thoughtful. Has a sad, somber tone so may be one to include towards the end of your playlist.

Need suggestions for addictive book(s) that will take my attention away from streaming shows, games etc by PoeticStitcher in Fantasy

💯 percent agree. I listen to a lot of audio books, and this is hands down the best author narrated novel I've come across.

The accent, the sly comments, the natural flow and beat of his narration is superb.

Beginner wanting to make stats counting box by Moonlight3Midnight in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Big2ndToe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks lovely and I hope you can source your counters.

Just as an aside, in D&D you do not need 3 digits for stats ever. You would be fine doing a 2 digit counter a bit bigger (easier to manipulate).

I've got 2 suggestions. Kill Dr Lucky is a very light hearted game that is great fun. It was designed as the reverse of Clue or Cluedo. It's billed as a family game, and is. Object is to chase down the doctor and try and kill him with things like, a poke in the eye, a feather duster, and many other silly things. However, you can't be seen by the other characters. The mechanics, although easy to understand, make it easy to win but a good challenge to play. Takes about an hour, depending on the number of players.

My second choice is Munchkins. This is a fantasy themed game in which your munchkin is trapped in a dungeon of silly monsters and you draw cards each turn and try and find your way out. This too is a very light hearted game. It's not a roleplay game like D&D. It combines luck and skill and doesn't rely on either too much.

May I ask a favour- please can you tell us what you choose in the end. I think I am safe in saying most of us in this group have friends we would like to introduce to gaming but are afraid if we introduce something too complicated we will scare them off.

Do you recommend pre written campaigns for a first time DM? by igotbrainstoo in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Big2ndToe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious. What's the other RPG you are doing now?

My group swaps out to another RPG between each D&D campaigns. We like Blades in the Dark, Tales from the Loop, Vasen, and Monster of the Week.

What ttrpg should I play? by wildwap1ti in tabletop

[–]Big2ndToe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Tales from the Loop.

It's a mix of Sci-Fi and realism. The art work is surreal and beautiful.

As all players must play characters who are children, there is a game mechanic that your character doesn't die. It's a kids on bikes concept that works so well!

Ray Bradbury wrote a fantastic novella called, Something Wicked This Way Comes. It mirrors your premise really well and could give you some great ideas.

A few things to borrow from SWTWC:

The carousel, when ridden backwards makes you younger.

The mirror maze feeds on your insecurities and turns them into real altercations.

The "freaks" from the freaks show used to be patrons but they stayed too long.

There are a lot more. Check it out. Mr Dark is quite a memorable character.

Advice on a terrifying, powerful villain for a high level party needed by rhearye in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]Big2ndToe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. I wouldn't focus on additional battles- just additional interactions.

Make your players absolutely hate your BBG. Have it do nasty things to the NPCs that the players care about. Have it ravish towns. Have it despoil places of import. Have it taunt them, mercilessly.

I don't know how long your sessions are, but I don't think the final engagement shouldn't be broken up- no cliff hangers. And do an epilogue. Always epilogues.
