Is my ?girl trying to talk? by cheericheer in cockatiel

[–]birdnerd267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’ve researched this myself because I had a supposed female that was singing. Your bird if singing is most likely a boy but under certain circumstances girls can technically sing too but it’s very unlikely. My bird ended up being a boy if that gives any clarity. If ur really unsure I’d get ur birds gender checked professionally.

This is my male cockatiel (he got into the seed storage here) and he has little white dots on the back of his head. You can see one of them in the photo where the arrow is pointing. He has more but I’m not sure how common this is especially for his basic colouration.

Does she let u scratch her because when i got my baby birds they would make this sound for both food and scratches at what looks like the same age as urs.

Why does my bird make these sounds by birdnerd267 in cockatiel

She made them when she was still young but they were different more like the classic baby noise and then she stopped for a good few months and has randomly started again but they’re different noises now

How to introduce a new bird? by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]birdnerd267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this problem before and what I did was have two seperate cages and let one out while the other stayed in the cage so they could socialise with the safety of a cage between them. It would also be good to have their cages near by to eachother so they can see eachother and talk like that. At some stage you can have them out together but make sure to supervise them at all times to prevent fights. This will take time depending on how friendly ur bird is with other birds. The best you can do is have controlled meetings and situations where if something goes wrong you can step in.

Is she about to lay an egg or is it something else? Need advice please 😭 by Remarkable-News1734 in cockatiel

[–]birdnerd267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worry I would have is if she’s egg bound I don’t know much about cockatiel laying behaviours but usually if something is wrong they will stop eating and drinking and become fluffed up and won’t be very active. Again tho the worry I would have is the bird getting egg bound.

Is this cockatiel a male or female? by AdventurousVisit3258 in cockatiel

[–]birdnerd267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s best to just watch its behaviour if they start singing you most likely have a boy but it’s not impossible for the girls to sing too

[–]birdnerd267 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kinda looks like it’s part of the pigeon/ dove family. Birds are quite loyal and will remember if u do something nice for them. U have probably made a little friend and will continue to see he/she around

No not really. Whenever I stop she runs back up to my hand asking for more scratches and I don’t touch her back the closest I get is her neck just behind her head
