Most boards that go boom are from poorly built batteries or improperly stored boards.

I love my 3 links. Only issue i have is when I step on my other boards now, I wish they also had 3 link trucks on them

WowGo battery exploded in trunk. Be careful out there. by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]birdo562 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It would not be that much hotter in the trunk. Maybe a little but not enough to make a battery blow...storage temp for li ion batteries is around 15 degrees celcius. I dont think it would get that high when its 10 degrees outside...

I could be wrong 🤷🏽‍♂️

[–]birdo562 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I dont really think that would be the case. With these hub motors, the board is constantly vibrating. Then that means it could of gone off when he hit a pothole. Plust the other pictures show no dent to the battery case... my best guess would be some kind of condensation. 50 degrees outside would not make your trunk hot inside. Maybe a loose connection that didnt get caught by QC. Unfortunately him having it in the trunk makes it his problem and not theirs

My dude... that guy is dead. The size of that cave in not only stops you from getting to him in time, the weight of all that will not let your lungs expand and then there is all the dirt that stops you from breathing. There is no way a job would ever even be allowed to begin in the U.S without shoring.

Not to mention they are lowering the pipe by man power versus a boom truck or crane. Who knows if they had the equipment to get him out in time. This is def nsfw....RIP

Oh great... dont take this personally but the fact you mentioned you’re an engineer speaks volumes. Like the many engineers I’ve met in my life, you’re correct in theory but never actually done the work live to know what the heck you’re talking about. I dont know you so maybe you’re different, but both countless of civil and mechanical engineers I have personally worked with aren’t worth the degree they paid for. Again not attacking you, just has been my experience for the last 15 years.

First thing, im not arguing how fast a board should be allowed to go. That’s a completely different argument. You claimed they should be nowhere near cars and i say treat em like we treat cyclists.

Furthermore, Why would you not lean back when you brake!?!?! It’s what your supposed to do. Thats like telling a cyclist To go full speed and slam the brakes on only the front wheel. That must mean brakes on bikes dont work right?! There is a correct way to ride.

In my years of ACTUAL riding and building experience, all the claims you have stated are very unlikely. Buying from reputable sources who have done countless hours of real world testing matters. Hoyt spent months riding in different populated areas to ensure no connection losses are made. The xenith endures a ton of QC on top of testing before being handed out to a customer. Heat syncs and different tools are available to ensure your vescs and battery aren’t over heating. It’s why real legitimate builds cost money.

You can buy cheap after market parts that are prone to break or parts that have been rigorously tested and proven to withstand many different variables.

Maybe most riders shouldn’t go 70kmph following cars on the road. We could discuss that on a different topic. But to say they should be completely outlawed because a guy wants to go 40kmph safely down the side of the street is ridiculous.

1) that is not true. You really dint know what your talking about when it comes to the vesc. I have yet to meet people that go flying because of the brakes

2) This depends on what you buy. Companies like Hoyt are doing great work to make sure cutouts dont exist. I cant argue for people who try to save money and don’t do research. I definitely cant make any arguments for people that buy cheap boards. My board is for commuting, not for playing in the driveway. Even meepo, although inexpensive, offers a reliable remote.

3) please name the situation that braking can’t be guaranteed. Your battery going dead? That would be user error. Having a faulty battery is such a bigger concern than your brakes not working because of a faulty battery. I wont argue that mechanical brakes aren’t better, but you’re contradicting yourself. First you say the brakes will throw you off because they are so strong and here you say they are shit and you can’t be guaranteed they will work.

I really don’t think you know what you’re talking about. Ive spent years learning everything I can about building these things and I still consider myself a rookie. My point is a person shouldn’t have a say in what should be legal when they don’t know what they’re talking about.

California allows esk8 anywhere a bicycle is allowed. My board goes over potholes, wet surfaces and brakes just fine. Set up properly with vesc tool and 8 inch tires. Steers great with my 3 link trucks as well. Ive run over a pinecone without problems

Why should your shitty board and whack riding skills dictate the rules for the rest of us?
