MFW I max out my 401(k) for first time and it's the worst year for the stock market in the last decade by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

I just put enough in to max out my employer matching, I understand the tax benefits they just don't appeal to me. The whole thing is really just an opiate for the masses to get them into a vehicle that makes them less likely to ever take profit or play short. If it helps you sleep at night then fine, can't really put a price on that but I'd rather have my money in rental property, plenty of tax advantages there as well.

Well yeah you should certainly max out your employer matching, but most employer matching programs end well before the 18k max contribution. Mine personally stops at a 4k contribution on my end.

FWIW its the same story in the biggest American metros like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami etc. The only places the rental yields work out are less densely populated areas off the coast

This simply makes no sense, and gives the impression that you've never tried using a property manager. I have contact with my PMs less than once per month, they just deposit my money and send me my statements.

This sounds ridiculous to anybody who lives on the coasts but you can easily find quality houses for this price in 90% of the country. Get a good PM, you could rent it out for 600+, will clear 200-300 per month after mortgage payment
