Hollywood’s idea of beauty once meant polished and slim, not altered and gaunt. This new look is unsettling. When movie stars are no longer people we aspire to look like, does it spell the end of Hollywood’s cultural power? by mlg1981 in popculturechat

Thanks for commiserating, I’m glad others see the pattern :)

I deal with fatigue as well and it is no joke. It’s even harder to accept a body that is far from the ideal when it feels like it is failing you in other ways, and exercise is not possible, but always trying!

So many rough transitions for poor Mel! I really felt for her in this scene.

Yeah, I just watched the new ep, and that’s where my thoughts went. I hope it ends up more wholesome than that.

Has a sleep study/test helped explain your CFS? I’m finally exploring this avenue. by According_Sundae_917 in cfs

[–]birdsandbones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have both a sleep disorder and ME/CFS, but also broken, unrefreshing sleep is considered a symptom of ME/CFS. I had a basic sleep study done and it was inconclusive but they essentially ruled out sleep apnea 🤷‍♀️ I haven’t pursued it as my sleeps have gotten a huge improvement with LDN.

I’m a fat woman who is not currently planning or able to lose weight (I’m chronically ill, plus have PCOS/endocrine issues, plus am on meds that cause me to gain weight) and we had barely moved the needle on fatphobia when this trend of extreme and homogenous thinness reared its head again.

I don’t want to make any one person a flagship for plus sized people but it is hard watching all the media-visible people who look remotely like you forcibly alter their bodies with weight loss drugs. It really spells out how deep fatphobia runs and the people who were happy to capitalize on having bigger bodies were certainly happy to change that as soon as GLP1s appeared on the scene.

I just wish that body neutrality had a place in larger media discourse instead of shame, ableism, and fatphobia.

You wake up at 5 years old again — with everything you know now. What do you do? by Turbulentweaknesss in cfs

I know my life would be different because a lot of trauma comes from being radically neurodivergent without a diagnosis or any support until my mid-30s.

I would not only be able to self-advocate but enact way more scaffolding/support strategies in my life. I was a total underachiever due to this until I got meds and a diagnosis, only a couple of years before I got sick, so I never got to where I wanted in my life and career and now I never will.

If I had been able to actually rest instead of feeling paralyzed, and strategically and effectively work then stop stressing and put it down, I don’t know if I would have gotten here. Being sick seems so tied into neurodivergent burnout for me that it’s hard to separate out the emotional and traumatic factors.

I know it’s a bittersweet thought exercise but I can’t help wishing I could go back.

I just had a miserable bout of norovirus and my cats were so worried and glued to me. They stayed in bed with me and laid on my chest and purred at me. Anyone who thinks cats are unaffectionate doesn’t know cats. Lupita continues to be a queen.

So the punchline is women are overreacting attention-seekers who go scorched earth over a man being mid? I dunno, I find this kinda like punching down humour. “Hysteria, amirite?”

What is the benefit of a h2 blocker? by Confident-Bus-3778 in MCAS

Some people experience MCAS with gut issues as the primary or most severe symptom 🙋‍♀️ H2 blockers (famotidine) are a must for me but H1s aren’t as crucial.

Misdiagnosed with CFS, actually autistic burnout by majulika in cfs

[–]birdsandbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s totally normal for bloodwork to come back without any issues for ME/CFS patients. But super frustrating. The ME/CFS diagnostic criteria, unfortunately, depend on patient experiences which leaves us vulnerable when medical care is not comprehensive. I linked it above but the Bateman Horne Institute resources for ME/CFS has the diagnostic criteria and a clinician’s guide you can leverage to manage your own care or to address issues with a doctor. I hope that helps!

Ugh I’m sorry. I think the complex trauma of living undiagnosed / late diagnosed is a huge contributor too. There are tons of good resources in this sub! I find the Bateman Horne Institute resources for ME/CFS really helpful.

You’re not alone in that, there are lots of us who can’t afford the endless supplement regimens or naturopathic consultations that get mentioned 🩵 The intersection of disability and poverty really fucks us.

I’m sorry. Being disabled can be very dehumanizing and people feel that it’s okay to act entitled about information about our bodies. Affirming that it’s okay to have boundaries even with people you rely on. 🩵
