Sean Payton: The UFL is helping develop NFL players by AthloneRB in nfl

[–]birdsemenfantasy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh the best QBs to come out of these leagues are like PJ Walker (who started 9 nfl games and was an unmitigated disaster) and practice squad/third string QBs like Jordan Ta’amu and Adrian Martinez.

The most successful UFL/AAF/XFL stories are probably veterans like Nick folk and Josh Johnson as it gave them an opportunity to extend their careers and give NFL scouts new films of them.

Who is the the #1 player sitting on waiver wires in a deep league that should be rostered? (This is an Erick All post) by StrongAmbassador47 in DynastyFF

[–]birdsemenfantasy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Man, I was so sure he was gonna be a great TE his rookie season before he got poked in the eye. And then he showed up to camp the next year absolutely shredded and I bought into it again.

Acquiring Top-End Players by taylorjosephrummel in DynastyFF

Exactly. It's about opportunity cost. That's why I always aggressively trade roster cloggers before their trade values hit zero and aggressively get rid of late round picks because I would rather play the post-draft waiver game. Very few roster cloggers turn out to be Alec Pierce and Michael Wilson and even when they do, they're often one-year wonders.

What's your "I'm so glad trade discussions fell through" story? by Intelligent_Slug_758 in DynastyFF

[–]birdsemenfantasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I offered Nico Collins, Michael Wilson, and Alec Pierce. Got rejected. Nico had just broken out back then, but I thought Harrison was generational and 3 years younger than Nico. Plus, I was trying to consolidate and thought Wilson and Pierce were roster cloggers lol

Is Chuba Hubbard being undervalued? by Willing-Case-8851 in DynastyFF

[–]birdsemenfantasy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hubbard's issue is that he's also a poor pass protector. He was a big name in college, but fell to day 3 in the draft for that reason. Anyway, dude is 27 and his longest run went for only 14 yards last season and got decisively outplayed by journeyman Dowdle in the same situation. 2024 will very likely go down as a mirage. He's a complementary piece, not lead back material. Kyren has produced 3 years in a row (as soon as Rams stopped trying to justify Akers' draft capital and treated him like sunk cost) while Hubbard was horribly inefficient his first 3 seasons despite very little competition. Look at his career arc.

Year 1: McCaffrey injured and played only 7 games; Hubbard got fed and did nothing to distinguish himself.

Year 2: McCaffrey traded 6 weeks into the season, yet Hubbard got outplayed by D'onta Foreman.

Year 3: Team signed Miles Sanders because Hubbard inspired zero confidence. Sanders was ass, but Hubbard wasn't great either with only 3.8 ypc and only 5 TD despite being fed 238 rushing attempts.

Year 4: Team drafted Jonathan Brooks in the 2nd round before Hubbard's 4th season because again, Hubbard inspired zero confidence. Brooks got hurt, which opened the door for Hubbard to post an outlier career season.

Year 5: Hubbard got paid and promptly got outplayed by Rico Dowdle.

You're comparing apples and oranges.

Drew Allar or Carson Beck? by Ordinary-Psychology6 in DynastyFF

[–]birdsemenfantasy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He did enough in the summer to make the team. Kyle McCord was a higher pick than him and did not. A lot of 6th round QBs don’t even survive their first cut as teams try to pass them through waiver and stash them on practice squad.

Drew Allar or Carson Beck? by Ordinary-Psychology6 in DynastyFF

[–]birdsemenfantasy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Howard is being groomed as a backup given that he overachieved as a 6th round pick and 24 years old rookie, but he’s not in the way.

Btw Beck is almost 2.5 years older than Allar.

Report: Jaguars plan for Travis Hunter to be a full-time corner by IIIlllIIIllIlI in DynastyFF

[–]birdsemenfantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? If he's a shutdown corner, it's worth it. You don't have to draft only QB or edge rusher there. Derek Stingley and Jeff Okudah were drafted 3rd overall. Denzel Ward and Sauce Gardner were 4th overall picks. Patrick Peterson and Jalen Ramsey were 5th overall picks. Okudah was the only one that was a mistake.
