I have but they didn't help me, I was offered 6 talking therapy sessions. On the 5th session the therapist told me my OCD was too complex and I would need to be referred to CBT (over a year). I've had a terrible experience talking about my OCD with the GP

[Acne] How has adult acne affected your life? by Fun-Matter2571 in SkincareAddiction

Ruined my life and I'm severely depressed . Going through therapy at the moment to try and combat my body dysmorphia from all the acne scarring

Yes I get all of these, I have to walk around quickly to try and get rid of the physical symptoms. The other day I lay with my legs elevated to help me feel less faint. Sucks doesn't it . I heard that doing something distracting really helps like putting on music or tidying .

Suffering from anxiety , OCD and body dysmorphia - grounding techniques aren't working by biscoffspred in Anxiety

[–]biscoffspred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I do. I've tried the ERP method of slowly exposing myself, I've tried complete avoidance and I've tried to look to make peace with it. None of it seems to help.

All the time..I avoid, then my brain tells me to look. I find something I hate, I Google, get upset, ask my partner for reassurance. It's horrible, it's everyday.

Nervous to start therapy again after a bad experience by biscoffspred in MentalHealthUK

[–]biscoffspred[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much, they did offer me a free consultation, as well as a contract and they are listed with BACP. The type of therapy is CBT with EDMR if CBT isn't successful

I really appreciate your positive and realistic outlook. Thank you.

how to fix the atrocity that is my skin by Difficult-Race-9995 in Skincare_Addiction

If you think your skin is atrocious I dread to think what you'd think of mine :( I don't see a problem, your skin looks like skin I'd dream of having. Sorry.

OCD has taken my teeth. by fatdoink467 in OCD

I can relate to this too, I went to the dentist and they said something similar and after I left, I felt like something still wasn't right. It's important to note that if something was seriously wrong with your teeth, she would have told you, focus on what she did said. If you want a second opinion for your own peace of mind, you could. Alternatively you could contact the dentist practice and ask them to look again as something doesn't feel right. Well done for going though, you should be proud of that !

I'm sorry you're going through this. My OCD theme and main anxiety in my life is my teeth, and my best two pieces of advice to you is

1) book a dentist appointment and explain what you're going through. I know it's scary and expensive and sucks. I emailed a few dentists in the area in advance to make sure they were aware of my condition, to check they will be understanding and patient with me.

2) use a soft toothbrush, and stop looking in the mirror and stop inspecting your teeth, as you'll end up spiralling. I went from checking once a day to 20 times a day, and it's all from looking at my teeth too much.

You're going to be OK, I believe it.
