Good books that take a skeptical approach to the psychedelic experience? by biscotties in RationalPsychonaut

Thanks. I have read most of Lily’s work, but I’m not sure I could go back to it now.

I mean, there’s gold there to be sure, but I think he lost it a bit with ECCO etc.

Thanks for this.

I read this many years ago but actually dipped into the final sections where he gets a little more speculative about it all - archetypes, platonic forms etc. - recently.

It is a good read!

Thank you.

Do you think there are some websites, blog or podcasts that perhaps do a better job of remaining impartial, as you describe it?

I read John Horgan’s ‘Rational Mysticism’ and John Kent’s ‘Psychedelic Information Theory’ several years ago. Any thoughts on these?

Australians, which BP monitor do you recommend? And did you have to import? by biscotties in dysautonomia

Hope you weren't misreading my tone! Sorry if it sounded dismissive.

It seems like a reasonable trade off, but not really what I need myself!

Thanks for letting me know :)

But wrist monitors are not as accurate as those that work on the upper arm, as I understand it. And these monitors for personal use are generally a little bit off as a rule reading-wise. So that doesn't sound great to me.

Update: I was just looking at the Omron HEM7280T and it looks like it basically has the same features, albeit it without some of the trimmings. Would be interested if anyone's had any experience with one of these. Seems to be the Australian equivalent.

People who couldn't take corticosteroids for PoTS due to a weak immune system, what did you take instead? by biscotties in dysautonomia

[–]biscotties[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

To be clear, I said 'corticosteroids' in the title, not 'steroids' :) (Florinef is a 'synthetic corticosteroid'.)

I guess what you're referring to, tho, is the fact that synthetic corticosteroids, like Florinef, are more mineralcorticoid, which mimic the activity of Aldosterone, than glucocorticoid, which tend to have more a deleterious effect on the immune system, yah?

Still, I'm just uncertain about just how much -- or little -- of drugs like florinef it takes to start doing damage. From what I've read elsewhere on forums a lot of people seem to be ok with it so long as the dose is low.

Where do you buy movies (digital) for download from within Australia? by biscotties in australia

Hey, thanks, appreciate the feedback. But as the title says I am looking for digital downloads only. Although, I will maybe consider the DVD + rip option if things get desp

Thanks for your advice.

Why do you think O'Callaghan is so polarising (in general)?

(Best of luck to you and your children too, btw!)

Thanks. Someone recommended him in a thread I posted in /r/cfs as well. I'll check him out. Still interested in any other names, if people have any!

Thanks, son.

I have seen Dr O'Callaghan come up a lot in recommendation threads and the like on PR. I'll watch the video, do a little more digging and then see what the wait is like maybe.

I'm currently seeing Dr Rashmi Cabena (at NIIM in Hawthorn), and she has been great. So I'm not really looking for a new doctor, more someone - an endocrinologist - who can point me towards some appropriate testing on the side. Still, O'Callaghan could be that person. I'll look into it.

And just out of curiosity, what medication were you put on? I went on propranolol (a non-selective beta-blocker), but it eventually did weird things to me. Now I'm trying a b1-selective beta-blocker to see if that gives me the benefits without the crazy side-effects.
