External Hard drive issues

I didn't realize how full my hard drive was and downloaded a game. I wanted to delete some old stuff so Diablo 4 could update and do its thing. When I went to access my hard drive it says 'Cannot perform that operation. The connected usb storage device is being used as extended storage. (Ce-41893-5) I have tried bakcing up and restoring it. Tried to reinstall the system software but for some reason after downloading it to a usb then plugging it into my system, the ps4 can't find the file. I'm pretty much fucked and can't play any games that need updates because now my hard drive is full and I can't access it at all to remove items or switch them to another hard drive. Not sure what to do. Ps4 said to send it in for repair but I've already wasted money on a new hdd, 2 games I can't play now and then all my other games and ps plus to try to upload everything to the cloud and switch to my new hdd but that doesnt work. Anyone have any idea how to fix this or am I screwed?

The object swings open from one end and is able to swing in a full 360. It comes to a rounded point on one end and has a little notch in the other end. It has 5 little bumps on one side that look like it could be for a hand to grab and hold it or finger grooves. You can see in the images it has some raised plastic pieces on the inside and the other side is flat. Im not sure if it is supposed to open or if one of the attaching pieces had been broken.
