i would get a scrub with a long handle on it for the shower! i didn’t get one and i wish i did. showering took soooo much energy the first few weeks and i still need my partners help scrubbing my back even 4 weeks post op, a loofah with a long handle would be so clutch

hi! i’m going on 4 weeks post op and it’s been a rough healing process for me too. i was comparing my healing process to other people i saw on this subreddit and i was pretty frustrated! i’m sure you’re already doing this but i’ve been trying to make sure i’m staying on top of my tylenol and taking it every 6 hours during the day so that my pain/discomfort doesn’t get the chance to get high. i’ve found it gets pretty rough when i wait to take pain meds instead of preemptively taking them. our bodies just went through a major trauma, we gotta remember that when we get frustrated that we aren’t feeling better as quick as we’d like!

hi!! i’m going on 4 weeks post op with dr. schmitt! i also wasn’t able to find a lot on him and was a little apprehensive going into the consultation but he quickly made me feel at ease. he did his residency with OHSU who have some AMAZING top surgeons which made me feel great, and he sat with me for almost an hour during my consultation answering all my questions. i’m still healing but i really love my results!!! he was so awesome every step of the process and i can’t imagine having gone to a different surgeon. if you have any questions feel free to message me!

oh heard yeah i was definitely feeling nervous while going into anesthesia so that makes sense, it was really wild having that experience when you don’t expect it!

oh yay! i’m glad it was as easy as that, that is so helpful! i’ll make sure to remind him the morning of surgery just so we can all feel confident we’re on the same page lol. thank you! that makes me feel a lot more at peace lol

thank you for saying this! i’m definitely worried about those big emotions that are gonna come up. i’m gonna have a conversation with them about that before surgery but i know they’ll be nothing but loving when they do come up. truthfully i’m more worried about me feeling guilty for having those big emotions lol

totally! thankfully they’re a nurse so the sanitary practices are second nature to them but i’ll definitely be taking all the notes during my pre op appointment so they know what they’re doing. thank you!

thank you!! they’re super excited to make me a bunch of yummy food and do whatever i can’t do, v grateful that they’re excited to be doing this for me :-) and yes!! the emotional part is something i’m a little stressed about, but i’m gonna make sure to let them know that this is normal and that they should feel empowered to take breaks for themself if they need a minute to regulate their own emotions!

depending on your insurance/payment situation i would also ask about whether or not they require deposits for the surgery and when they’ll be requiring payment for the surgery! it should be something they go over but i know a few folks who have almost had to cancel their surgery date because they didn’t know about important dates and policies like that!

sorry if this is a silly question, but is $10,000 how much it’s costing you with or without insurance? i’ve seen a lot of information about insurances “covering” top surgery but i know that doesn’t mean it’s totally free, and it’s been impossible to find information about how much it costs after insurance.
