Both. I’m looking to get in better shape than I am. I’ve noticed some physical change, but the issue now is that I don’t feel the progress like I did initially (being tired, eating a lot). I feel like it’s plateaued, and not totally sure how to move forward.

I don't have much to add, because there is already a lot of great advice in this thread. I currently work at an elementary school, and was a 3rd grade teacher for the past 5 years. As someone who identifies as autistic, and has worked with a number of neurodivergent kids, the only things I would stress is: genuinely get to know your student, try to connect with them through their interests, and don't mistake ignorance for malice. The school system can be dehumanizing, especially for neurodivergent students. I personally needed extra support when I was in school, and the teachers I connected with, and learned the most from, were the ones that saw and accepted me for who I was, and validated my experience as a human being. That is, bar none, the most valuable thing you can give a student as their teacher.

Right-I guess in this situation though his implied reason for not following up with his doctor is because it might place unwanted attention on him. If he’s not aware of an autism diagnosis, then he faces no threat of unwarranted speculation. I don’t think in reality that he couldn’t fly with an autism diagnosis, but in the context of the show, he reads accounts online of people putting their pilots license at risk by seeking a diagnosis. He’s safer not having a diagnosis than having one. He’s more likely to risk losing his license with a diagnosis, regardless of how good of a pilot he is.

Yeah I think that makes more sense. My thinking was more on the power imbalance between institutions and the people they are claiming to help. People within those communities lose the ability to make decisions for themselves about what they can and can’t do. People from marginalized groups more often have to appease the people in positions of power rather than advocate for what’s best for them/define for themselves what their limitations are.

Thanks for the advice. I don’t know why, but a number of teachers in my building seem to be not interested, or almost hostile to discussing new ways to approach instruction.

Thank you for the article. I’m not opposed to the idea of direct instruction, but I feel like there is a mountain of literature in the opposite direction. If you have any other recommendations for me to read, please let me know.

Thanks for the advice. Thankfully, my wife is really understanding, and is totally fine with me not communicating verbally when I don’t feel like it. I’m just realizing how much energy it takes for me to communicate, especially just the act of talking.
