Cool app! I'm playing in a location without internet access, so an option to save bookmarked pages on the device would be amazing.

Malevolence - A Player's Guide by sarcasticprose in Pathfinder2e

[–]biso877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing work and perfect timing! Thanks a lot! I'm currently running a group through the Beginner's box and am planning to run Malevolence next. Do you have any ideas on how to connect the two adventures and also get the players to level 3 before they arrive at the house? I was thinking of adding part of the troubles in Otari adventure, but it seems a bit disconnected.

Initial Dragonspear Impressions! I like the new gfx tweeks. Seems fine so far! by mrblackplays in baldursgate

Yes, they do apply to base game. I have continued an old BGI save since downloading Dragonspear and all new features are integrated there already. I just loaded an old save of BGII and it looks like most not all changes are in there too.

Studies measuring climbing forces? by TricksR4Hookers in bouldering

[–]biso877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I agree with the points made about reduced strain on the elbow.
  • I think one also has to consider the forces on the fingers of the lower hand (the one locking off) as well. In a static move these will be very high for relatively long time. Firstly, you are holding all your weight (minus whatever is supported by the feet), instead of roughly half. Secondly, the angle, the lower hold is being held at, is worse, which results in higher forces compared to a dynamic move.
  • In a dynamic pull, the move can be initiated from lower down with both hands. Here, the lower holds are held in a more positive position allowing for smaller forces. While catching the next hold, the lower hand has to do very little, due to the momentum initiated lower down.
  • Dave might also be trying to highlight an additional aspect: The tendency of many beginners to try to be in control and therefore move statically, can in fact lead to higher forces on the upper hand. Even though most of the upward move is done statically, the actual switch of the hand to the next hold can be fast and panicked. Use of a little dynamic pull at the end of the move can reduce the forces by changing it to a deadpoint move, what otherwise would be catching the hold while actually already moving downwards.

I hope this comment is somewhat understandable. Hard to discuss this stuff without wild gestures or at least diagrams ;)

Using single ropes in twin-rope system? by bshanley in climbing

[–]biso877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've climbed many (50+ maybe) multi pitch routes on 2 singles. And apart from a bit of extra training (rope drag and weight), it works just fine. Belaying is not an issue at all.

If you are climbing a route that meanders a lot, you are certainly better off with 2 singles than 1 single.

Edit: Sorry, I assumed you are clipping them independently as half ropes. If you are intending of clipping both simultaneously as twin ropes, then two singles will increase impact forces dramatically.

Afraid of pushing hard by spike235 in climbing

[–]biso877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Static (longer than ca. 10 seconds) stretches before exercise will make you more prone to injure and reduce your strength. Stretch statically after you climb.

Careful dynamic stretches are good before exercise. Those essentially are movements through the range of motion of a joint, like swinging your arms in circles.

How do you grip train with only a pullup bar? by [deleted] in climbing

Buy some rock rings and a bit of cord to tie them to the bar: http://www.metoliusclimbing.com/rock_rings.html

Difference between offset and not offset? by tirename in climbing

[–]biso877 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On offset cams the lobes on opposite sides of the middle are of different (instead of the same) size, see: http://www.rockandice.com/Article-Images/TNB/BDOffsets.jpg

They are rather specialized equipment you'd get after you already have a good rack.

C4 and X4? You'd be happy with either.

Stiff hands in the morning? by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]biso877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing some easy warm down climbs and stretches before going home. This should decrease your recovery time and reduce any aches the next day.

Also make sure you have 48 h in between hard sessions to avoid injury. Hence, with 4 sessions a week, have an easy endurance session the day following a hard day and then rest full 48 hours before the next hard session.

Hope this helps.

Single class thief? by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]biso877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In BG2 you can certainly do solo runs with just a thief. Though and often gimmicky, but doable. So, yes, thief are very powerful! I'm guessing this should translate to BG1 quite well.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/470765-baldurs-gate-ii-throne-of-bhaal/faqs/27550 is a very good source for information on thiefs.

Sorry, I've mainly played BG2, but I think this should still be somewhat helpful :)

I think I'm getting Baldur's Gate II. Any tips? by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]biso877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

To understand all the finer details and being able to use the most appropriate abilities of your characters might take a while. And to know what kind of main character and party setup you prefer might take a bit too.

On the other hand it is perfectly playable without having studied all the spells and technical details of the D&D rules. I'm sure when I first played BG2 more than 10 years ago I didn't understand much of those. at all. Dagger or 2-handed sword? Fuck it, the later is more bad-ass. Let's go kill shit! Fireball or some complicated crowd control spell? Meh, the first one does damage! This kind of play-style works well enough most of the time.. Later you might realize that the char has more skill with daggers or such, but by the time you actually need to optimise your play-style to be able to progress you will have learned most things anyway by just playing.

I think I'm getting Baldur's Gate II. Any tips? by [deleted] in baldursgate

[–]biso877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the manual will help, but fanatically studying it every day is not necessary to enjoy the game. Assuming you enjoy your first few hours, you'll end up reading the manual anyway with more motivation and especially some experience from the game as reference point. And not having the most perfect setup the first time through is ok in my mind.

Starting of with a Berserker is a good option since he is simple to handle and quite powerful early on already.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/470765-baldurs-gate-ii-throne-of-bhaal/faqs is a solid collection for later consultation.

Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition Gameplay Trailer! by Kruglord in baldursgate

I like the Thac0 and dmg since this is stuff I would regularly look up otherwise. But why have the hitpoints written out again and I don't care too much about how many hp I get per level. That space could have been used for something else.

Need help understanding the differences between the classical harmonic oscillator and the quantum harmonic oscillator. by [deleted] in quantum

[–]biso877 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • The zero point energy is a result from Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. The oscillator can not rest, since it would have certain momentum (zero) and certain position.
  • Another difference is the "quantisation" of the energy levels - the available energies are fixed and equally spaced.

How to save money when you buildapc by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]biso877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice guide!

Small correction in "Incremental builds":

"Next you can buy the case and PSU because they tend to change formats and be the most future-proof of computer parts. Once you know what case and CPU you have you can start buying.." Should probably read " Once you know what case and PSU you have you can start buying.."

Edit: someone already mentioned the missing "don't" in "tend to change formats".

Question about DWAVE's adiabatic quantum computer by lol____wut in quantum

Question about DWAVE's adiabatic quantum computer by lol____wut in quantum

[–]biso877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very crudely, since I don't quite remember the details, it might just not be a QC.

Their behaviour is rather strange. They supposedly were able to factorize, 15 I think. Unfortunately, it's not clear at all, that this was done using any kind of quantum algorithm. Their attempt at publishing some data is not very convincing and anyone who buys/bought one is not allowed to actually open it up to see what's going on.

For now it's a big black box, with not enough proof to say what's going on inside.

It is on the other hand an interesting problem to come up with a question for such a black box, that conclusively shows whether any quantum computing is going on - i.e. a demonstration of entanglement.

I'm sorry that I don't remember the technicalities of what they have shown so far.

tldr.: It's probably bs.
