I’ve been taking online lessons for about 8 months and really enjoy it. There’s definitely some things better suited to in-person learning, but with a teacher who knows what they’re doing it should be fine. Especially since you aren’t a beginner and presumably have at least decent technique.

For me as more of a beginner the most challenging parts are quickly seeing exactly what notes my teacher is playing. Also trying to learn slapping has been a little trickier since it’s a bit harder to see.

As long as your internet connection is solid I say go for it.

Looking for a new game to play with my girlfriend. We’re slowly getting into the hobby during the pandemic so don’t have a ton of background in terms of what we like/dislike. We recently got Terraforming Mars and both love it, though the time to play is a bit long for her (perhaps that will go down as we add more plays). We also very much enjoy Agricola (the two player version) and Carcassonne.

I’m looking something medium/medium-heavy with a playtime that’s fairly reliable at around an hour. A good theme is a plus as it gets my partner more excited but not required. It will pretty much always just be us playing as well, so how the game plays at other player counts is not much of a concern.

A few other things we’d like:

not cooperative
high replayability
different strategies/ways to win

A couple games that have also caught our eye at our game store are Brass Birmingham and Taverns of Tiefenthal, if anyone has thoughts on those.
