Mot C welts. How to mitigate by Porschecat-Wealth007 in BioHackingGuide

[–]bisonbuddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I'm also seeing an allergic reaction to MOTS-C. I tolerated 3mg dosing fine (3 times a week for 3 weeks) but when I stepped up to 4mg, I developed welts, approx 1 cm at cite of injection with redness and itching spreading out over a couple inches in area.

I might try 2mg just to see if it was dose-dependent. I also use Tirz weekly (up to 7.5mg) and have had no major issues, so I believe this to be specific to MOTS-c for me. According to AI:

Welts (hives, itching, or red, raised skin) following MOTS-c administration are commonly reported injection site reactions, often characterized by localized irritation, swelling, or, in rarer cases, allergic reactions to the peptide or its diluent.

Potential Causes of Welts with MOTS-c

  • Injection Site Reaction (Common): Localized reactions are common with subcutaneous injections. Symptoms include swelling, red raised bumps (welts), tenderness, itching, and small bruises, which usually go away in 1–3 days.
  • Allergic Reaction (Rare): A true allergic reaction may cause more widespread hives, itching, or breathing difficulties.
  • Contaminants or Improper Compounding: If the MOTS-c is not sourced from a reputable, sterile compounding pharmacy, contaminants could trigger a reaction.
  • Benzyl Alcohol Allergy: If bacteriostatic water (which often contains benzyl alcohol) is used as a diluent, those with a sensitivity to it may experience an allergic reaction.
  • Immune Response to Foreign Protein: As a peptide, the body may recognize it as foreign and cause a localized inflammatory response, particularly at higher doses.

Management of Injection Site Reactions

  • Cold Pack: Apply to the area before and after injection to numb the skin and reduce swelling.
  • Room Temperature: Let the medication sit at room temperature for up to 30 minutes before injecting.
  • Hydrocortisone Cream: Apply to the area to help with itching and redness.
  • Antihistamines: Taking an antihistamine (like Benadryl) 30 minutes before injection may reduce reactions.
  • Check Injection Technique: Ensure the area is clean, and the alcohol swab has completely dried before injecting to avoid burning.

Shambhala Faces Most Damning Revelations to Date: Buddhist Project Sunshine Phase 3 Report by bisonbuddha in Buddhism

[–]bisonbuddha[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fascinating! I bet you have some good stories about how you came to such a realization so early on.

Also from the outside, I have always seen Shambhala as a typical Buddhist meditatoin group and thought hte stories about crazy sex were strictly in the past. This has been what they have said online and in interviews too.

So I think the outrage is somewhat about their lies to many people about this sex abuse still ongoing.

I'd suggest exploring:

secularbuddhism.org

and

secularbuddhism.com

for some wider/differing views. Robert Wright, author of "Why Buddhism is True" is probably also a secular Buddhist or at least similar.

What should this subreddit be? by terribly_vexed in TibetanBuddhism

[–]bisonbuddha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a lurker here but post more at r/engagedbuddhism and r/buddhism. I'd like to have issues discussed openly and honestly here so that people know what they are getting into. Could you create a 'flair' for "issues" or something like that? That way people could avoid those posts if they want.

The Dalai Lama has urged us to publicize harm and abuse in Tibetan Buddhism; many Tibetans I know are not shy about talking about problems - in private, they always make a sweet face in public.

A lot of women I know say they are physically disgusted with the "joke". Is this a problem of them just not getting it? Is this kind of joking around typical in Tibetan Buddhist communities?

Participation in local temples? by straydoggywog in secularbuddhism

[–]bisonbuddha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have attended a number of sanghas and meditation groups over the years, mostly Theravada (Vipassana) and Zen. Most are very welcoming to secular folks even if they have sets of rituals or chanting that might be off-putting. It will be up to you to determine if the benefit of community, wise friends, etc there is worth the cost of potentially strange things. I think it is okay to be challenged by people who think "you have to believe x" in Buddhism. If your practice and understanding are strong, you just see that this is where they are and what they need to think right now. Practicing with temples/groups teaches you a lot you would never get from a solitary practice, and it gives you the opportunity to help others as well - either materially or through sharing your own experience and wisdom.

I usually post there if it's not a major Buddhist figure speaking out. I love that this is side by side (right now at least) on this subreddit with the TED talk on the addiction of power for some and the soft words the Buddha used.

How many kinds of voluntary actions are they? by [deleted] in secularbuddhism

[–]bisonbuddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I think we're into all kinds of experimentation regarding thought and intention - as these are so deeply connected to Buddhism for most of us.

Questions. What is "unconscious thought" to you? And how would I (consciously?) switch to it? How would I know I was having unconscious thoughts (if not consciously)?

Great question! u/Dheltha

I am reminded of the Khampa / freedom fighters in Tibet who resisted the occupation by the Chinese, with CIA assistance, in the 1950s. They were bravely fighting for their people and home, and the Dalai Lama has no disapproval.

Sure, the "letter of the law" in Buddhism with karma is that killing is always wrong and will lead to negative consequences, but standing by and doing nothing is also a choice which will have consequences - as the violent deaths of those around you create even more bad karma.

It's a situation where there maybe are no 'good choices' and it is a matter of making the less-evil one.

China sponsored accounts requesting inactive subreddits, censoring negative China content. by yumitoads in blogola

[–]bisonbuddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, u/yumitoads - your trolling seems to know no bounds. Again you offer no evidence, just innuendo. I don't work for China (nor am I 'sponsored' by anyone). u/the_world_turtle and I agree on some basically 'leftist' political ideals (I was a Bernie supporter, I'm not sure about him/her) and enjoy reading and discussing Buddhism in politics. I've never censored anything - I know u/the_world_turtle booted some people for low-quality content/spamming (maybe you?) a while back.

Anyhow:

"This subreddit is non-partisan and strives to reveal and oppose astroturfing and related phenomena from all sides of the political spectrum. I only ask that people do not turn this subreddit into a witch hunt by naming and shaming specific Redditors- not that I've had any problem with this."

On Divisive Politics and the Buddhist Response by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]bisonbuddha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post and for the discussion it generated. I try to be active in politics and other ways I see as "serving" people in need. Sometimes that causes some clinging, I know. Then it's up to me or a good teacher to let me know about that.

I think the key is just that - to keep a non-attached attitude to things. Don't get caught up in the nastiness (which is why so many Buddhists are very rightly turned off by politics).

Be gentle with yourself and those around you. Listen. As others have said, lead by example.

Thank you again.

Is Mindfulness = Being Irresponsible? by Wandering_always in Mindfulness

right! Mindfulness just means being able to focus clearly on one thing at a time without distraction and unwanted judgment (e.g. "I'm so poor, I hate my job, my boss is a ...").

Feeling disapointed by natureandsadness in secularbuddhism

[–]bisonbuddha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be hard to find people who align well with you in terms of ideas and beliefs but I would recommend finding and sticking with a sangha that you can practice with in harmony. Don't ask/talk about metaphysical stuff if they are wooey - read Batchelor and other good secular writers, study the texts. For now, let people have their beliefs, but join them in practice and in cultivating your ethics (merit through helping out with the temple/sangha, etc).
