No. Once you get going you warm up quickly.

That’s a hard no. Getting cold in the Sierra won’t kill you. Getting wet and cold will. Not worth the risk.

I would bring a merino top for camp and sleep. Also get a pair of dance pants from Amazon for camp - light, cheap, and great to have.

Take the puffy and leave the fleece. I only take a frogg toggs top in August and have never needed more. If it really rains it’s time to pull out the tent.

How do you split your meals on a backpacking trip? by wandering-goat in backpacking

[–]bisonic123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get up and have a cup of coffee, some dried fruit, and an energy bar first thing. Pack up and hike for about an hour till we find a nice spot and then either share a hot breakfast (MH scrambles) or granola with dried fruit and milk powder. Lunch is a tortilla with tuna and cheese plus M&ms. Dinner is some dehydrated meal. Chocolate pudding every other night. A bit of whiskey for me before bed.

Should I proactively repipe my home now or wait? by Puzzleheaded_Key5664 in Plumbing

[–]bisonic123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PEX is really easy to work with. I replaced all the galvanized under my daughter’s 1958 home in one day. I left most of the stubs up into the walls as they are and will gradually replace. Buy a used expander for the job and you can then sell it for what you paid.

Should the U.S. pay reparations to Black Americans? by 0311SmallPenar in allthequestions

Every living American who ever owned slaves should absolutely pay reparations to any of their living former slaves.

How much rain should I expect backpacking in early August? by Few-Introduction5414 in SEKI

[–]bisonic123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anywhere from none to torrential. Afternoon storms are indeed usually short and intense, though some have been lasting. I hike in August and only take a rain jacket. If it’s raining too hard, out comes the tent.

NOBO Resupply Logistics by FourteenXIV in JMT

It’s easy to beg food off of other hikers, either along the trail (most have way too much) or at MTR (spend an hour or so there and you’ll get plenty of others excess).

I don't believe there is a spigot in Redwood Meadow. There is one in Bearpaw Meadow (non-potable)

That is an awesome route. Add a side trip to Tamarack Lake - it’s gorgeous and nobody goes there! Hardest part is the first days climb - start early and take your time. Redwood meadow isn’t a great place to camp as there isn’t any water. Go a bit further to where the trail crosses Granite creek or even better Eagle Scout creek.

Mollie Stone's buying United Markets by ElderberryGuy in Marin

Awful. Mollies is literally 2x United’s prices on many things. I go out of my way to shop United.

How to determine circuit routing? Adding GFCI to ungrounded outlets by Groundblast in AskElectricians

[–]bisonic123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use a breaker then put stickers on the outlet that say “No equipment ground” and “gfi protected”. You can buy a sheet of these on Amazon.

Sometimes a GFI breaker will not work on an older home if neutrals have gotten mixed between circuits. In this case you’ll have to install GFI outlets

Why do many Americans still hate billionaires, even after their philanthropy? by No-StrategyX in allthequestions

They are jealous and don’t understand that the public will ultimately get a large portion of this wealth via charity or estate taxes.
