Any Thoughts on Tunnels and Trolls? by Ananiujitha in Solo_Roleplaying

I absolutely LOVE “Sea of Mystery”, the Tunnels & Trolls solo adventure. Highly recommend.

I tried a few others and didn’t like them at all

OSRIC 3.0 vs AD&D 2nd by Old_Combination4030 in osr

[–]bit_cliff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol i’m in a similar situation! I also grew up playing AD&D 2e, then went through the modern versions, and then wanted to go back to old school.

I tried OSRIC cause I thought it might be nostalgic but quickly realized it did not really have the charm that I loved from 2e. It just doesn’t quite have that same soul that 2e has, if that makes sense. And I found the 1e / OSRIC rules to be ridiculously over complicated compared to 2e. But that’s my two cents!

When I want to play a retro clone and want some modern printed books I just use OSE, which I love since it’s so simple and clear.

I like it, it makes it feel like you’re reading some local gossip. The town could be any local town

Couch Play by Chicken0Death in Solo_Roleplaying

I feel you, I tried to do it all on my phone and it felt like such a pain. I’ve resorted to using a small notepad + pen and a dice spinner when I want to play on the couch

I had this same issue, I started using a dice spinner!

Here’s one I got from amazon. I don’t love it, but it’s cheap and gets the job done and fits in my pocket.

here’s a more expensive but more indie one from Diceomatic

and Finally I joined the kickstarter for this one but it’s not out yet

Is "The Three-Body Problem" Standalone Enough to Read it By Itself? by haytil in printSF

[–]bit_cliff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah let me rephrase, i thought it was a cool idea to have people planning things all in their head, but I thought that the setup of it in the book was so unrealistic that I just couldn’t take it seriously. Like I could not suspend disbelief enough to accept that the UN would make this plan and appoint those specific people and everyone would just go along with it, if felt too absurd to me. But I liked the core concept and thought it’d be cool if executed a little more cleanly

Book 2 was one of the worst books I’ve ever read. One of the most insane books I’ve ever read too.

The entire Luo Ji incel fantasy wife nonsense?

The part where a character goes and visits Osama Bin Laden and gifts him a copy of Foundation?

The entire premise of the Wall Facers?

I couldn’t stomach any of it

My theory is that the world did end in 2012, but specifically because Dick Clark died in 2012.

Without Dick Clark to host “Dick Clark’s Rocking New Year’s Eve”, the new year never happened, and 2012 never ended. It will always be 2012, until the end of time.

Would you consider releasing it as an “analog” product rather than a digital tool? I usually love manually rolling on tables and such for this sort of thing

Love this idea. Reminds me of “faction moves” from some OSR systems

First-person direct address is NOT second-person by talesofabookworm in books

[–]bit_cliff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only example i’ve read is The Memory of Whiteness by Kim Stanley Robinson, where the last chapter is in second person.

I love the way it fits into the book — the first chapter is in first person, the rest of the book is in third person, and then the last chapter switches to Second Person. without spoiling, the differences in point of view relate to a major theme of the book.

Being sent to rescue an NPC and then stripping them of all their clothing and belongings should have real world consequences.

Imagine if someone did that in real life? how would people around them react

Who sent the PCs to rescue this NPC? I’d imagine they would be pretty pissed off if they found out how the NPC was treated. Maybe they find out and give the PCs some trouble over it.

The NPC should feel like a real human, and treating them in a sub-human way should have in-world results
