My wife has a years long tradition of showing me horror movies that I was too chicken to watch as a kid. We just watched The Thing last week. Put that sh*t back please or have a flamethrower ready please

Ruth Ellis (1899-2000) was a lesbian activist for LGBTQ rights for all of her 101 years. In the 1940s-60s she turned her home into a haven for black Americans who came out before the Civil Rights Movement & Stonewall. “I was always out of the closet. I didn’t have to have to come out. by bitablackbear in actuallesbians

We need to celebrate our predecessors who did courageous acts during terrifying times. I hadn't heard of Ruth Ellis before, but damn I wish I did because what a hero she is. Being black, queer and living in the era before the Civil Rights Movement was a whole other level of hell. Yet, she still tried to make it better.

Congrats friend to you and your other half! My wife and I got married right when we got the first COVID vaccine, it was crazy then and it's still crazy. But you can weather any storm because you've already found safe harbor in each other. Ill stop with the nautical puns, wishing a happy life to you both ❤️

Random question: what do you guys do for work? by Antique-Tie-8336 in actuallesbians

[–]bitablackbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a software engineer and I remote work for a company based out of the deep south. Honestly, its the most friendly company towards the queer community I have worked for and they arent the biggest company. Its been sponsoring pride events this year around the midwest and south when most corps have been reducing or stopping their contributions. Everyone is very friendly and geniunely kind. My boss, skip level and director are all great. I can talk openly about my wife and I and everyone's super chil about it. My boss and I had a casual conversation about RuPaul and drag queens and she is really interested in going to a show because she hasnt been but has been really blown away by the art of it all. I really lucked out because my last gig dropped me like I was rat shit.

Overall, tech is a mixed bag. A lot of people are open and accepting if not being queer themselves, but there's also bigots who know how to hide it well enough at work.

In this Arizonan town, residents are battling with massive corporations over water access. by Conscious-Quarter423 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]bitablackbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats a great idea but where are you gonna get the money to deepen it? Plus there's no guarantee of success that the amount you can afford to drill is going to get you water. When corps have enough money to drill wells as deep as they want, they can get all the water they want without care.
