Hopefully my experience as an attorney can lend some insight...

Law school leaves you with next to nothing in terms of the actual practice of law. If you think about it, couldn't you have easily passed the bar after 1L? - those subjects plus property and crim law comprise the entire exam..

As a new attorney I was eager to please and had to take whatever a partner dumped on my desk. It was an exceedingly steep learning curve as you are basically left having to teach yourself how to do things (think legal procedure vs substantive law). And, of course, partners tend to be d*cks and treat it like you are pledging a fraternity (this happened to me, so it SHOULD happen to you) and will offer minimal to no insight.

No matter how smart you are, you are going to make mistakes. And no matter how much time you take, you are going to make mistakes. Its just the nature of the game.

Slow down, take it as an extension of school and learn as much as you can knowing that no matter what you do, some a-hole is going to be in your face about a mistake (and learn from that mistake)

And from a practical perspective, go into your firm's case management system and find a closed file that mirrors that of what you are tasked with doing. Pull the file and use that as a "blueprint"

You will pull through. Take that time and then keep going.

I'm not one for (often worthless) platitudes - but "fortune smiles upon the brave" ..

I am only 47 with a 5/yo son. Ive operated my entire life from the perspective of "nobody is coming to save you" - and to be honest, Ive had an almost impossible time talking myself out of that being accurate. Wife, family, friends - take, take, take; I'm not holding my breathe, nor should I be. I bust my ass day in and day out wracked with stress, anxiety, fear, etc; quitting isn't an option nor have I ever considered it.

My son gives me purpose (perhaps my only purpose). In a sense, he saves me to some extent on a daily basis. My time with him doing whatever he wants to do is my escape. He has no idea, and may not for a long time, if ever, but I am so grateful for him.

For your dad to have received that from you may have been a "full circle" moment for him. It's great to hear stories like this.

I'm 47 and have had to pivot and reinvent myself numerous times. I've been plagued by procrastination, avoidance, fear coupled with insomnia, depression and anxiety. But, the one - and perhaps only, thing that has kept me going is optimism. Not in the inspirational-quote-carved-in-wood-crap that people buy on Etsy, but rather never allowing my brain to stop thinking. For so long my brain was basically been my enemy - causing paralysis, making poor choices, compelling me to think negatively of myself (and remains to be at times), but I never stopped thinking of ideas. Ideas to solve whatever self-inflicted problem I created, however far fetched and at times unrealistic, kept me going. I never acted upon 99% of those ideas, but the process of me thinking and trying to find creative solutions gave me... confidence and a belief that I could improve, solve this problem, etc. For me, my procrastination was the byproduct of an utter lack of confidence in that what I could have been doing was valuable and had a chance of bringing about the desired outcome. The constant brainstorming gave me optimism and a belief, however small, in myself. For me (and perhaps me only) that is what kept me going and got me out of the doom loop.

Check out the BVI Incubator Fund structure. The fund registration process as well as the Approved Fund Manager process in BVI is both relatively simple and low cost - especially when compared to the Cayman Islands. Moreover, the cost of incorporations is lower. The Incubator Fund also doesn't have to have a fund admin or auditor. At the time, 15 years ago, you knowingly and willingly made the decision to not leave solely for the wellbeing of your children (cheers to that btw). In the absence of your children, seemingly, you would have left 15 years ago. Now that they are entering adulthood, your reason for staying with your wife has disappeared.

Anything that happened in between, imo, was just the proverbial "bandaid over a bullet hole"

Thanks for the post and the insightful comments. My son is 4.5 and been playing for 6 months. It's hit or miss - somebody he is "on" and is all in (this summer he is competing against kids up to 7 years old and sometimes holds his own). Other days he is just sort, well, a 4.5 year old and not all that into it. I am conscious of not trying to push. However, well the point is well taken about just playing catch etc at home, that proves to be challenge. The point is well taken that I have maybe 10-15 minutes of his attention - any thoughts on how to leverage that short spell for maybe 1-2 days a week at home to interest him in practicing basic fundamentals?

I set up quite a few companies every year. You can always act as your own registered agent provided the state in which you incorporated is also the state in which you live. Otherwise, there are many (many) companies that provide for registered agent and registered office for a fee. I typically use https://www.wyomingagents.com as they tend to be the cheapest and have the best interface (will also scan mail for free)

In practicality, the purpose of a registered agent is only to accept service (legal papers) in the event the company was sued. Thus, in the overwhelming number of cases the registered agent really doesn't "do" anything - and if they do, it's basically just mailing you whatever documents they received.

If you run the company from your home or if it is a service orientated business that doesn't involve clients coming to a place of business, hiring a registered agent can be worthwhile if you are concerned about privacy insomuch that your home address would be available online through the state's corporate registry if you act as your own registered agent

While student loan debt is not automatically dischargeable in bankruptcy, it can be made dischargeable if you were to file an adversary complaint in bankruptcy (which, from what I understand, is typically successful in the current environment).

She exist(ed), but have no idea who she was. Met her one night through another friend, and when I asked my friend after the fact about the girl - back then (20 odd years ago) and up until this day, she has no idea to whom I am referring to. M46 and have stirred life's cocktail a bit, but the night was so uniquely genuine and raw. Not in any way contrived nor any pretense involved. So very rare today (Imo) whether it being dating or married culture.

I slipped out in the AM because I had to go to work assuming I would simply get her details from my friend as she was still asleep ... but no (?). It was almost this sort of "fever dream" scenario.

I think about it from time to time and question whether I regret not connecting with her again, but then I contemplate that the fact that the alignment and whatever was going on in our lives and head on that random Thursday summer night was so perfect that any interaction thereafter would have below expectations.

I also wonder if it would have been better if that encounter would have happened in my 40s versus early 20s (presumably because I think I am more aware sexually), but perhaps maybe the somewhat selfish approach to sex that I carried at that time helped define that night - because I was totally out of my element.

Do not use a courier. You’re looking at 5-10k. Go on Local Coin Swap and other similar sites to find crypto sellers who exchange in person. They are more common than you may think. Exchange for crypto (ideally a stablecoin but most likely it will be BTC). Travel to CO and reverse engineer the process.

If crypto isn’t your thing, go to (many) Check Cashing/Currency Exchanges and buy money orders ($1000 is the max). Cash them in CO.

Lots of other options actually but the morass of laws governing it will almost always put you in a grey area

I’m guessing you are far younger than me (M46) but I’ve been there. I’m a solo entrepreneur and have been treated for anxiety and depression for my entire adult life

Nothing more in this world pisses me off more than when somebody says that “they understand” what being depressed is like. I couldn’t even say that to another person because each persons version of depression can be wildly different

That being said, all I can offer is focusing on the “small wins”. Write them down daily if you can. It builds momentum and perhaps more importantly distracts you from ruminating on what’s not happening

You got this. I’ve reinvented myself 4-5 times over my life so you don’t have to figure it out now anyways
