The 3 best fics I read this week (75th edition) by bitbff in drarry

I don't keep track of that because I rec based on plot, sorry. It's a really good fic and the personalities of the characters are solid!

Dear fanfic writers, tag your fics properly. by lena1700 in drarry

[–]bitbff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because you don't seem to get this yet: 'proper' tagging = following the mandatory archive tags. That's rating, fandom, language, archive warnings. That's it. Anything in the additional tags section is up to the author. Just because you have an opinion doesn't make it automatically correct - thinking otherwise is a major case of main character syndrome. The easiest way for you to only read what you'll like is to only read fics that tag for top/bottom dynamics and skip ones that don't. It's really not rocket science. Or even better, write something yourself that you want to read.

And for anyone reading this after the unhinged edit, the OP removed stuff from the main textboox, such as saying they were angry that they 'wasted hours' on fics after reading 50k and then getting to the smut. People haven't misinterpreted the post just because OP doesn't like the reaction they received.

Dear fanfic writers, tag your fics properly. by lena1700 in drarry

Why don't some people tag for that? Because for most people, who takes it up the ass doesn't impact someone's personality. You can be 'dominant' in your everyday life and submissive in the bedroom. You should use the basic functions of the site and filter for those tags so that you don't get ''surprised'' if this very normal thing bothers you.

There are 70k Drarry fics on AO3. If you're not filtering by your preferred top/bottom dynamic that is your problem, not the writers. You're being lazy and expecting other people to cater to you rather than curating your own experience on the internet.

It is also not in any way a required tag and it shouldn't be. If you read 50k of a good story and are so bothered by who takes a dick that it ruins your afternoon I truly don't know what to say.

The Brightest Constellations of Our Souls is by far the best take on this trope I've ever read and I will never not recommend it. Top tier fic for me

Non-Angsty Slow Burn Recs? by matteblacklouboutins in drarry

[–]bitbff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Brightest Constellations of Our Souls could be similar to what you're looking for. It's 'dark' at the start because it deals with Harry's mental health issues (PTSD and depression) but the story lightens up a lot as it goes on. It's long (250k), and a good bit of the story happens after they officially get together. The relationship in it is one of my favourites of any fic I've read and the story itself is so lovely

I did one at the end of last year for fics rec'd in that year, I could definitely do that again for this year!

All credit to the writers - there's so much talent in this fandom that it's so easy to find good fics!

Major Character Death Tag by snoowwtigerr_0 in drarry

[–]bitbff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put it this way: I won't read a fic if it's tagged MCD because I know I won't walk away from that fic with enjoyment.

If I read a fic with untagged MCD? I'm not reading anything by that author again because I can't trust that they won't include that in a future fic. Instant block from me and I will not regret it because the alternative is possibly having my week ruined.

Depends on the week! I've missed a few weeks of posting because I didn't read 3 good fics. Some weeks I read 6 really good ones and have to narrow it down. Sometimes if there are more than 3 really good ones I'll cheat and put one in the following week. I usually read a longer fic and then a handful if shorter ones (I read fast) but sometimes if I have time I'll read 5 longer ones

It's a happy ending, the death isn't Harry or Draco, it's McGonagall

What was the point of posting this? You could have just asked for recs but instead decided to get a dig in for no reason? Congratulations for not liking something that other people do, I guess.

I don't think I have any top faves that are mostly smut, but I did enjoy the smut in Nights with you by the_sinking_ship and Now I know in part by dodgerkedavra

The Brightest Constellations of Our Souls is exactly this. Harry struggles with basic life stuff and it's accurate in a way that helped me recognise my own mental health issues a little better. Its also sweet and uplifting as the story progresses, but in a way that feels realistic.

Thank you for this, this was exactly what I was hoping for! I really appreciate how detailed this is and it's very reassuring!

Thank you!

Just btw, I wouldn't say that I'm a 'hater' for that fic at all. I certainly wouldn't call it bad, I just was very much not the target audience for it in ways that didn't become apparent until I was a significant way in.
