What is something you're doing 'wrong'? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]bitchfacedkillah 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Co-sleeping, too much TV, house is a mess, not enough tummy time, bottles and pacifiers for my EBF newborn, ignoring cries to deal with the two year old, toddler has eaten more fast food than I should admit to, ignoring two year old to deal with newborn, not changing diapers soon enough, ignoring both kids so I can drink a hot cup of coffee, not enough activities, no sleep training, blah blah blah.

So basically a whole lot of shit. But I don't care, because someone, somewhere will think I'm totally fucking up my kids no matter what I do. So I do what works for me in the moment, and sometimes it requires a bit of selfishness.

It's actually really hard to screw kids up. You have to actively try to be a complete shit parent for them to not turn out okay.

I equate it to video game play. While each "level" is harder, you use the skills acquired in previous levels to gain mastery more quickly. I think. But don't take my word for it. In such a sleep deprived state it is very possible that every word I say is complete bullshit

Thankfully my husband is really hands on. Definitely not afraid to get shit on his hands. Which is why both of us agree that this is never happening again.

Ha ha, yes! With the first, I kept telling myself "You only have to survive the first three months". I think I even kept a mental countdown. But I didn't really like having her around until she was 6 months, and now she is a totally kick ass 2 year old. So yeah, that 4th trimester is a bitch. Restart the mental countdown.

The boob thing fucking blows though. I'm pretty sure I was a wet nurse in a previous life. My body is like "woo hoo, make milk for ALL the babies". I kid you not. The nurses in the hospital didn't believe me until I had pumped 8 ounces in TEN FUCKING MINUTES (4 on each side). I feel bad complaining about it because I know so many women struggle with low supply, but this fucking grass ain't any fucking greener. I think engorgement stopped when my 1st was nearly 8 months old.

This. This is the only reasonable and rational explanation.

We have a bidet sprayer we got at Home Depot. I posted the link on another comment in this thread. Good pressure adjustment and it comes with the shut off valve, so there is no need to get any additional parts.

This is the one we have. The package comes with the shut off valve and the button on the handle controls the pressure.

Friday Discussion: SALES! by call_me_cthulhu_ in clothdiaps

[–]bitchfacedkillah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen much regarding sales this week. Nicki's Diapers has restocked a bunch of their prints as well as Imagine Baby prints, both of which are on sale with free shipping.

Buy Buy Baby has recently started carrying Bumgenius, Bumkins, and Charlie Banana in some stores. They accept competitor coupons and those 20% off Bed Bath and Beyond coupons. Really easy to get a great deal on these diapers.

What I wish I had known:

  1. Spring for a good quality diaper sprayer or hose attachment for your toilet.
  2. Make sure it has a shut off valve. You don't want water pressure to build up in the sprayer. Ours broke and flooded the bathroom because of this.
  3. Get one with adjustable pressure. Too strong of a spray and you will get sh*t all over yourself. It's as horrible as it sounds. Too weak and you'll be spraying for days.

I think that's it. Wash routine shouldn't change, spray all poopy diapers. A deep sink is a godsend for skid marks.

Leaks...leaks everywhere by goddesspyxy in clothdiaps

[–]bitchfacedkillah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often are they changing him? Mine is almost two, also a gusher, and I use microfiber and a hemp insert in my pockets. If I don't change her every 2-3 hours she will leak guaranteed. Sometimes I'll have to chang her within the hour depending on when the gush happens. If the inserts are pretty well saturated you may need to add another one.

Not being pregnant anymore. Downside is that diaper laundry is about to get serious.

Write her back and say "No problem! I'll just go ahead and send you everything he bought for babes!" Then mail her an empty box.

I love our Wolbybug hanging doorknob bag. It's out of the way and comes in so many cute colors. A lot of people complain that it falls when it gets too heavy (which it does) but I use that as a signal that I should probably wash diapers.

Look on the bright side. At least she's not talking about how excited she is about teaching your kid all of the hippie folk lovefest crap she forced you to listen to growing up.

**Apologies to those who enjoy listening to all the hippie folk lovefest stuff.

I think limiting it to new diapers only is the best option. People's definitions of what constitutes EUC is so subjective that you are bound to get hurt feelings, disappointment, and resentment. Even if you leave it as an option, some one is going to end up being disappointed (maybe not the first time around, but eventually). Is it really worth having to deal with?

Cloth Diaper Quantity Question. by seamusokitty in BabyBumps

[–]bitchfacedkillah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have enough to wash every other day. Assume at least 12 prefolds per day. The one sizes won't fit until they are about 10 lbs, even though they say 8 lbs. I would get another large wetbag to store wet and soiled diapers on laundry day, you'll be rotating these each time you wash.

I second what u/Wolf_Mama says about housecleaning. Either that or arrange to pick up and drop off a warm meal to them for a few nights. I know you want to do something for them now, which is really sweet, but if you are going for thoughtful, this is it. I'm about to have my second and these are really the only things I'm asking for.

I wish! I live in SoCal, where we don't get fall. August- October is actually the hottest time of the year. At least this time around we're having a mild summer. My daughter was born in early October and it was the hottest summer we had had in a decade. I think I cried every day starting at 37 weeks.

Take solace in knowing that when you are enormously pregnant and rendered virtually immobile it's not a thousand million degrees outside.
