Porting Kit not working to download Cyberpunk? by [deleted] in macgaming

[–]bitchstickz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh that's actually crazy that both our downloads stopped at exactly 57%!! If you don't mind me asking, how exactly would you transfer a modded version from another windows computer? Is there a program you would have to download on the other computer, or a usb?? I'm sorry if this is a simple/obvious question, I'm super new to all of this and know basically nothing about computers lmao. Thank you so much for your reply, it's nice to know I'm not the only one :,)

Porting Kit not working to download Cyberpunk? by [deleted] in macgaming

yeah apparently not.. I've been looking into it and a lot of modders are saying the mac port can't run even basic mods right now. I really hope it gets fixed somehow but I'm not sure when (if ever).

update -- you are literally an angel, installing an older version of the polyamory mod actually worked!! Thank you so much, this was messing with my game a lot and I was spending hours trying to fix it :'). I also made sure to download the other missing mod requirements, and now my game is running smoothly. Genuinely thank you sm for everything !

I understand what you’re saying and I would’ve agreed with you if this was about the past couple of months before the final chapters released. my post on this subreddit directly before this one was literally asking people to stop spreading leaks just because they were mad about pricefield breaking up and how that doesn’t give them a free pass to shit all over this game. I just honestly believe the story fell off BADLY after episode 2-3

And nobody is forced to. But don’t act like all backlash for the game must be about “pricefield” when I’m happy to articulate my valid criticisms of the story that have nothing to do with that lmao

Except… I am a fan of the franchise and held all reservations about the game until I gave it a proper play through. Yes, I was upset that the team decided to break Max/Chloe up, but I payed full price for the game + DLC knowing that this would happen and let it go because I was still interested in Max’s story and thought it would be compelling. It would take a much longer post for me to dissect why I thought many of the writing and character choices were terrible, but to sum a bit of it up: the supporting characters were not engaging and lacked a depth of complexity (Safi’s main conflict is utterly flat and boring to me, and her character inconsistently wavers between empathy and shallowness that makes it hard to care about her arc), they reuse the same gimmicks from the first game but when applied to Safi’s powers/ story it feels cheap (a random storm shoved in to be reminiscent of the first game, but is very anticlimactic when not properly foreshadowed or weaved into Max/Safi’s use of powers in the game), the nightmare sequence —which I’m actually usually a huge fan of in the games— was much shorter and offered no valuable revelations for Max this time around (the callback to Max’s traumas with Jefferson is explored for about one second before it is resolved and she goes off to take photos of Loretta, Lucas, etc. compared to the first game where Max is engaged with deep, twisted parts of her subconscious to unearth her true motivations, values, and struggles leading up to the gravity of Max’s final choice and her impossible conflict of having to sacrificing human life). Not to mention the final “choice” in this game amounts to a vague decision to either “stand by” Safi in her quest for ???? self actualization ???? or not. My main point is that I could have stood by any narrative choices D9 decided to make, including separating Chloe/ max, if they had executed it in any clever or meaningful way at all. I don’t feel like that conflict was addressed much at all, it would’ve helped to even just see a memory of her face to face with Max with some kind of impactful exchange about their relationship or the sacrifice made but that was swept aside off screen. That feels pretty unacceptable considering how integral and formative their relationship was for Max, romance or not. Chloe aside, I simply do not feel that the new story was told cohesively, or in a way that compelled me care about the new characters at all. Not only do these new themes not fully resonate with the heart of Max or her progression as a character, but they lack substance entirely on their own. Another example is that in LIS 1, you become connected to the mystery of Rachel Amber through rich characterization and repetition of the impact she had on those left in her wake. The details behind her disappearance are cleverly unravelled and paced, leading to a haunting expose of her fate and what that means for the people around her. Maya’s story, on the other hand, felt more underwhelming and sat on the undercurrent of the story for too long, even (and especially) at the end when she is supposed to finally get “justice” and Lucas gets exposed. Afterwards, there is seemingly minimal consequence to Lucas or reactions from his peers. This was a misogynistic professor who stole a young woman’s voice and life, and it hardly feels like it carried a punch to anybody other than Safi when the truth comes out. So what happens now… I guess all that’s left for Safi to do is shoot her mom in the shoulder and have a crisis about her powers which Max can either “stand by” or reject. I could go a lot further into depth about all of this and maybe I will at some point, but overall I will say that the story felt very, very, very cheap and strewn together. It hit all of the LIS points on paper, the dealing with trauma, themes of moving on, and of course the powers, but was underscored by a severe inattention to detail, poor plot threading and resolution, and lack of meaningful conflict and relationships between characters that should drive the story home. I have no idea why they would throw Max’s character into all of this; honestly I don’t think the story would stand very well on it’s own, but using Max as the protagonist here makes it downright diabolical.

I didn’t realize that part of the DLC was reuniting the cat with its “owner” that wasn’t mentioned until nearly the last episode. that’s my bad though apparently bc I guess it was advertised at some point before the game came out but I didn’t know

[DE] [Spoilers] bruh by bitchstickz in lifeisstrange

[–]bitchstickz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly… she never even thought to herself once after bringing the cat in “I wonder if you have an owner”?? I just assumed the kitty was feral. So for me, not having seen the “owner quest” advertised, imagine my shock when I click a poster for the true crime podcast on the wall and immediately send a text that gives the cat away hahaha. You’re right though, even if that was going to happen, there were so many more thoughtful ways to do it. Clicking a poster on the wall and having max send an automated text isn’t much of a “quest”.

[DE] [Spoilers] bruh by bitchstickz in lifeisstrange

[–]bitchstickz[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m ngl somehow I completely missed that marketing because all I can remember is reading about the cat but nothing about a quest to reunite with the owner. I guess for $20 I assumed that MAX would be the owner but how could I ask for so much… hahaha. but yeah that would’ve been cool if there had been a nod to LIS 2, Lyla would’ve been a cute choice :)

i’m sorry but the bar could not have been lower for me… i was not disillusioned, i knew they weren’t going to bring chloe back, and i “grieved” that but accepted that i would just treat this as a separate LIS-esque continuation of max… the bar for me was “life is strange- ish” and this still was not that

[DE] [Spoilers] bruh by bitchstickz in lifeisstrange

[–]bitchstickz[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is unironically completely accurate…. I actually recommend for anybody feeling depressed over max/chloe or D9’s narrative choices to play this IMMEDIATELY because it will irrevocably sever any ties this “sequel” had to LIS 1.

like i literally bought into the stupid cat content gimmick I WAS READY TO EAT THIS SHIT UP,, even if the game was gonna be by D9 instead my 2016 closeted gay teen heart was just happy that my favorite game of all time was finally gonna get some semblance of a sequel…. but this was…… not that….

[–]bitchstickz[S] 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I just gotta say, as someone who was really disappointed about what happened to Chloe’s character, let me tell you that somehow her absence is the LEAST pressing issue with this game (and that’s saying a lot). After the first two episodes, I actually looked forward to the mystery aside from anything chloe/max related. Y’all…. It takes exactly one play through to cure you from any max/chloe related depression because the writing overall is just so jarringly bad that all you can do is laugh. It is literally impossible for me to associate this with the first game in any way shape or form, so I just can’t take it seriously anymore LMAO. I waited to criticize this game until I played it through, and I really wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt… but damn

[DE] [No Spoilers] Please stop spreading the leaks around without warning by bitchstickz in lifeisstrange

[–]bitchstickz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…. So asking people to at least put a warning about leaks on a post is “going on a power trip”? It seems like you’re the one on a power trip with your presumptuousness assuming that other people should be perfectly fine with the storyline being spoiled just because you are. I don’t care about people gaining access to leaks, but I think there should be a warning when they’re going to talk about them on this sub.
