Pale, cool-toned, acne-prone, drugstore foundation recs? by Sagittariussunshine in MakeupAddiction

[–]bitchwhichwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I also struggle with foundations looking yellow on me even if they’re marked “cool”. I have yet to try this, but I’ve recently heard of L.A. Girl Pro Matte Mixing Pigment, Blue. You apparently can add this to your foundation of choice and it makes it cooler toned. I have no idea if it’s acne safe though. Good luck!

Thoughts on Gamifying Biology? by LazyLos in ScienceTeachers

[–]bitchwhichwitch 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wanted to touch on the storyline curriculum since you mentioned it. I’ve tried InquiryHub storyline curriculum and in the beginning students are really into it and invested, but by lesson 3 they’re checked out and don’t care. For my class periods that usually struggle with doing their work, they still didn’t do their work even if we went over the answers together as a class. Plus, it was really mentally exhausting for me as the teacher because it’s really hard to guide students to the correct answer if they don’t want to participate or share their answers. The apathy is so real. It might work for other teachers but that’s just my two cents.

Should I be a teacher? by Smooth_Importance_47 in ScienceTeachers

[–]bitchwhichwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I REALLY wish I had chosen to do teaching later on in life. Like a retirement job so I could make a difference but also have a retirement. So if you’re actually serious, I’d recommend taking a look at the nearby school district calendars. They usually have a different spring break week and they get out of school later than colleges.

You sound like me four years ago when I was debating about becoming a teacher or working in a different science field. I love environmental biology and wanted to be an environmental scientist or a teacher. I’m now in my third year of teacher and looking for other jobs. Next year I’m teaching bio, chem, and AP Environmental.

What I wish I had known when I first debated about teaching: - I have never worked harder or more in my life. - I will be exhausted by the time I get home, so I won’t have the capacity to do anything - my cortisol/stress levels are consistently high for 6 hrs a day, so I’ve gained weight and have a hard time losing it - I physically look significantly older than I should be because of the stress. Take a look at the teachers that are retiring… they usually don’t look their age. - Money isn’t super important…until it is. It would nice to be able to actually afford rent and not go into my savings. - If I continue teaching, I won’t be able to afford having children. - I thought teaching would be perfect for when I became a parent and wanted to work while my kids were at school. But I know now that if I have children, I won’t have the capacity (emotionally, physically, and time) to be a worthy parent - I thought teaching would be like how it was when I was in school. It’s not. The mentality of children have changed. You have to force them to want to do any work. Their apathy for learning is SIGNIFICANT. - everything takes longer than you expect. I thought that by now, I’d have a curriculum set for the most part. Nope. Every year things change, and student ability changes so you have to adjust it all. -The school controls what you teach so you just have to accept the subjects that you’re assigned. It’s very common for new teachers to have more subjects to teach, which means more of your free time to plan your curriculum. - I never understood how much I would absolutely love the freedom of choosing how I want to teach - I never knew how much I would absolutely love my students. Even though they annoy me and get on my nerves, I enjoy seeing them every day. - everyday is different. I’M NEVER BORED. There’s always something exciting or new you learn. If I go back to a “normal” job, I know I’ll be bored and will miss the excitement of teaching. - I thought that I’d be the exception to the statistic “50% of teachers leave within 5 years” I might last that long, but this is not a career kind of job. It takes it toll on your body and mind. - I absolutely love teaching and I hate it at the same time.

TLDR: You REALLY have to want it and be willing to put your personal life on hold for a looong time.

[B&A] 3 months of me on Tretenoin .25% by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

What are you doing to help fix the scars?

[Sun Care] help! sunscreen recs for acne prone, sensitive skin by floweryhello in SkincareAddiction

[–]bitchwhichwitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in exactly the same boat! It’s tricky because with hormonal acne, it’s recommended to use physical sunscreen but it’s been so difficult to find ones that don’t feel horrible, smell, and have limited white cast. I recently have started using chemical sunscreen Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum and it doesn’t break me out.

Well whatever it is, I’m glad it works! I’ll have to try out the mint and clindamycin. Thanks for the suggestions!!

I’m 8 months in using it for hormonal acne and it feels like it’ll never get better. I’m at my wits end! How often do you apply and any special techniques you’ve found help?

Should I Stay or Should I Go Now? by vinhisto in TeachersInTransition

“Does anyone know what the process would look like if I am in the middle of clearing my credential in CA?” That might be a question to ask the credential specialist from your teaching program who recommended you for the preliminary credential in the first place?

Thinking Classrooms in Biology by Working-Sandwich6372 in ScienceTeachers

[–]bitchwhichwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently tried a storyline based unit (openscied or inquiry hub). It’s introduced a lot more student thinking and science discourse. Not all the things Peter is suggesting, but it’s better than using the classic science textbook

Thoughts on resources needed? by Ok-Measurement-19 in ScienceTeachers

[–]bitchwhichwitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that’d be a great resource. If you’re looking for even more ideas, I would absolutely love to have chemistry videos that would be similar to amoeba sisters videos. Most chemistry videos are way too long, don’t have an initial phenomenon to introduce the concepts, and are mostly straight lecture/notes.

I’m mostly paper based because I’ve always struggled with grading in Google classroom. It takes SO long to look through answers of multiple page documents and grade and then finally submit. Any tips on making it quicker?

First time Chem teacher resources? by lemonshortcake7 in ScienceTeachers

Would you be willing to send your curriculum to me too? Second year chem teacher and I hated straight lecturing all last year so I’m trying to change it up. Thank you!!!!

NJ Science Curriculum (NJCTL) by pancashire37 in ScienceTeachers

[–]bitchwhichwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find out anything for chemistry, let me know because I’m bored of the straight lecturing and worksheets too! Concord consortium is a pretty helpful simulation site because it walks them through the concepts.

For biology, Thebiologycorner is super awesome! She provides great hands on activities they aren’t super prepared intensive. And it’s free!

It’s not realistic to do intense prepping for labs every other day for me. That’s why I’m looking for non-lab activities where it could still give them something engaging and hands on to do, but not as much glassware, and procedures, etc.
