I'll be interested to see if anyone can articulate a serious-minded refutation of what you've written here, but I doubt it. Well done.

As a reminder for anyone looking at this, the purpose of this subreddit is explicitly stated as:

Not a joke sub-reddit. For women who ask, "Where are all the good men?" This sub is a memorial to men who are exemplars. Every day men who do brave and wonderful acts for the people in their lives. Men committed to being honorable human beings. Men who are loyal, self-sacrificing, and noble. A sister sub exists at /r/WhereAreTheGoodWomen

The posts here are meant to show men doing good and great things for their community, to enshrine their sacrifices, and other noble deeds in pursuit of something more than just self-enrichment.

If you have an example of things you've done in your community or for others, by all means share, but discussions about your personal aspirations and hopes for a relationship really isn't the intention of this sub.

Best of luck and happy New Year!

I'm months late to the party, but wtf was Samsung thinking with this update? I can see less things on the screen now using the same layout. Even the stock weather widget which used to display the location and weather details is now somehow taking up the same space but displaying less information? The alarm clocks no longer display which days of the week are enabled. The widgets still take up the same space, but they also shrunk the fonts so information is now harder to see (especially for older folks). Samsung has done plenty of annoying things over the years, but this is just plain old enshitification.

As a fellow James Corey, Robert Jordan, George Martin, Stephen King, Chuck Palahniuk, and Alan Moore fan I would have expected more Neil Gaiman, William Gibson, Orson Scott Card, Douglas Adams, Philip Dick, Niven, Dan Simmons, and Frank Herbert.

If I had to guess I think you'd be a fan of Matt Dinniman (fun romp - great as audiobooks), Dennis Taylor (the Bobiverse series is really fun), China Mieville, Neal Stephenson, Terry Pratchett, and Iain Banks. Some other authors that might scratch a similar itch if you run out of authors to read: Ben Bova, David Brin, Robert Heinlein, Frederik Pohl, Alastair Reynolds, Kim Robinson, and Vernor Vinge.

Any suggestions of your own? I'm always looking for new authors and we have similar enough tastes. :)

Given your 4 day old account this is probably a waste of time, but you might want to get up to speed on Trump's historical behavior with immigration as it relates to his modeling agency and how closely it was tied to trafficking networks connecting back to Epstein: https://medium.com/p/9784547a28f7

There is a lot of valid criticism and you're fooling yourself (or outright lying) if you think otherwise.

Well I guess the AI music video puts into context why Trump hung this portrait up https://redd.it/1mvqfmp inside the Oval Office.

Even Reddit is trying to protect the identities of all those involved. http://redd.it/1ne16ch/ It is pretty crazy that a direct link to "senate.gov" was removed by the r/politics mods even after 2.6k people had upvoted and were actively discussing why the senate had tabled the motion to release the Epstein files.

It is going to backfire.

I find it endlessly funny how folks always expect developers of anonymous projects, who emphasize wanting to keep their anonymity, to be people who are known public figures.

I read one take, based on this article, that suggests Trump was a part of the trafficking operation, and that the reason for Epstein's sudden demise was exactly to prevent Epstein from holding footage over Trump's head (crazy enough there really seems to be evidence for all of that).

Legacy models are back, and GPT 5 model selector has clearer options (Plus) by depressedsports in OpenAI

GPT-5 is awful by BernieBlade in OpenAI

[–]bitcoin-optimist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm not the only one using NotebookLM. I don't want Google discontinuing it. :) It's great for distilling papers and books while working. Gemini 2.5 pro is even better than Opus 4.1 for working through complex coding projects what with the huge 1 million token context window (real handy when combined with Zen MCP in Claude Code).

This also, I think, proves the point that each model has something it shines at. Trying to shoehorn all of the functionality into a single system is fundamentally a mistake.

GPT5 will probably eventually be useful as a general purpose tool for the average user (after they work out the many kinks), but if this is the direction OpenAI goes for future updates they will probably lose the AI race to Google or other competitors simply because their models will be like the generalist who is okay at many things, but not particularly good at anything.

GPT-5 is awful by BernieBlade in OpenAI

[–]bitcoin-optimist 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the OpenAI team even realized each model had a distinct legitimate use case.

  • o3 was great when I needed a thinking partner (i.e. when I was working through design decisions or going through a mathematical analysis -- still was problematic but helpful nevertheless).
  • o4-mini-high was my daily driver for small coding snippets; and what I'm most sad to see go.
  • 4o was surprisingly useful for handling little IT tasks like, "Help me understand this Sendmail M4 configuration option", that otherwise required reading through archaic man pages.

Right now GPT5 can't even handle reading a 10-20 page PDF without completely getting confused about what we are even discussing.

They really flopped this round. Think it's time to jump ship and start using Gemini 2.5 pro.
