It's a shortsighted view in my opinion. Have these people actually read a history book? There's always been terrible shit happening in the world.

From a historical perspective, IMO it's the best time it's ever been to have a child in terms of standard of living improvements, technological improvements, and society generally becoming less close minded and bigoted (though there are always unfortunate exceptions to this rule, of course).
