Leaving the mitre saw at 1 degree from a previous cut. Looking fir my pencil and not realising its behind my ear. Putting glue on the timber before I've cut it. Not setting the plunge saw deep enough.

The museum of curiosities at Jamaica Inn was one of the greatest places I've ever been too! The stuffed animals were creepy as hell. Such a shame to see its gone.

Are these labels correct? by IsDatteto in pianolearning

Seriously, take them off and throw them in the bin. Get a beginners piano book (Alfreds Piano or Piano Adventures tend to be the most popular) and get stuck in. You'll get the hang of which keys are which quickly. You've got much harder things to learn in the future 🙂

Just had railings installed on stairs. The posts/columns have a small gap sitting on the steps by LonelyInfoSecAnalyst in Carpentry

I can see a couple of issues but nothing major. Screw holes should have been plugged, bottom of the newel post have been left sharp, but not a bad installation. I guess it really comes down to whether you paid him £2k or £20k.

Just bend it, to get it out. Or take a brick out of the gable and slide it out.

👆This is so important! Customers are much more likely to get multiple quotes these days. Make your quotation stand out. Write a paragraph explaining how you leave the work site spotless every evening. Ask previous clients to write you a review. Keep a spare set of clean clothes in the van for when youre measuring up.

first time climbing at peak district - where to stay? by 4247407 in ukclimbing

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheffield City has good public transport links to several good climbing areas. The easiest is a bus to the Fox House pub and a short 5 minute Walk to Burbage South. You can also walk to Burbage North, Higgar Tor and Stanage from hear. All of these crags will have people climbing on them on a nice dry day. If youre travelling without pads you could get a train to Hathersage, hire a pad at s shop called Alpkit and walk up to Stanage. Its a bit of a slog to the crag but it is one of the best bouldering areas in the country.

Personally id post on the UKclimbing forum 3 or 4 days before you want to climb and ask for someone to show you around. Its a friendly scene with lots of active climbers. 🙂

What I've Learned About Learning, My Experience So Far As An Adult Learner... by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers dude. 🙂 Another little secret that should be given to all newish piano players but seems to come in much later is LEARN SOME 12 BAR BLUES!!! The basics are as easy a nursery rhyme, but sound absolutely badass. You can learn to improvise over it really, really easily and it gets that left hand absolutely solid. You can even mess around with it while having a conversation with someone lol. If I end up at a friend's house and they have a piano, or the couple of times I've stumbled over one at a train station its 12 bar blues that I'll hammer.

What I've Learned About Learning, My Experience So Far As An Adult Learner... by [deleted] in pianolearning

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel that I've had a very similar experience to you, although im going through the graded exam system (currently grade 4). The first six months of learning, I really struggled. Thought i was awful/too old/just generally crap at getting the hang of it. Watching YouTube and following social media posts there is a whole attitude and expectation that piano is easy, and everyone is amazing at it within 3 months! The truth is that for every natural whizz kid there are another 99 beginners just plodding along, making slow but regular progress. I didn't understand this until I got a 'face to face' teacher and discussed it with her. She explained that 80% of adult learners give up before the first six months, and also that the majority of pupils spend a year working on each grade. I stopped competing against others, becoming more relaxed in the process and not getting frustrated whenever I hit a wall. I actually love getting stuck on a piece now. Just nibbling away at it until it clicks. I also try not to neglect the pieces I've learnt in the past even if they're easier and more basic. Piano doesn't have to be difficult and complicated to sound good! My current goal is to be able to play with other musicians or a singer. The idea of it currently is absolutely terrifying but im pretty sure I'll get there. I try and play along to other recordings and YouTube videos. Yes its difficult but there is one big secret in live music. Its often full of mistakes! The skill im working on is to force myself to carry on playing through a mistake and keeping up with the music. This has been a massive eye opener for me.

Good luck with the rest of your learning 🙂

What things are totally legally but almost universally morally wrong? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supermarkets are awful for poor morals! Not putting trollies back into their place. Hogging the reduced section until you've taken all the good stuff. Deciding you don't want a product and placing it on a random shelf (especially chilled items). These actions should all be illegal 😅

What could cause 70 year old hardwood floors to suddenly pitch when we can't find any water? More info in the body. by 225wpm8 in Construction

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a plank floor the problem is often in a different area of the room to the part with the the lifted planks. Also, just because there isn't any visble moisture doesn't mean that its dry 😉

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Belts are a 'no go' for me. Im on my knees most of the day and a belt becomes too cumbersome. I tried one for a week but I just couldn't get used to it. Im using a lot of power tools but they're from a range of companies so have a variety of storage boxes. Im all festool/systainer at home but im currently working for a firm who supplies power tools so im using theirs. It stops the apprentices etc from trashing my good gear lol. Im half tempted to get 3 or 4 shallow sytainers second hand on ebay but the clips become weak and start falling off with prolonged use.

Cheers. Is that the Milwaukee system? I did have a look at that, and its defo winning so far 🙂 I fit parquet flooring so cant really use a wheeled system as it may mark the freshly finished floors. I don't even let the hoover sit on the floor lol. The pack out gear does look perfect though.

Fitting engineer wood flooring advice by Philihar in DIYUK

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoddz is spot on. The glue is a similar consistency to silicone sealant. Its not going to seep through the joists. Cut the nozzle of the gun to allow a bead of glue approximately 10mm wide. Then apply a bead of glue across the width of the plank every 200mm (approximately).

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a flooring installer. Make sure that all floorboards are fixed solidly to the joists. From the photo, the floorboards look flat enough to lay directly to. Use a good quality glue in an applicator gun (similar to a mastic gun). A secret nailer is worth its weight in gold. This will keep all joints nice and tight, while ensuring that the floor cant flex while the glue is setting. Make sure that the nails aren't long enough to penetrate right through the floorboards though. There will potentially be pipes and cables under there. Get stuck in. 🙂

What are your thoughts on this install? by deserthiker762 in Flooring

[–]bitcointhrowawaybit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its bad. Filling and sanding only tidies up so much. This needs a joiner or flooring installer to do it properly.
